What do I need to shoot my revolver?

Hope i didn't come across as trying to sound like my way and .451 balls were the only way to go. I have never tried the .454's in mine...think i will got buy a box the next time i'm at the gun shop and see how it does in mine. :hmm:

Shot My 1858 Pietta New Army

I use #11's on mine with a little pinch before it goes on the nipple. I was using #10's but found that it often required a second strike to ignite them, and they were not disinergratig well. The #11's work like a charm and hardly ever have a failure to ignite.

What do I need to shoot my revolver?

I have the exact pistol that i also bought from cabelas. Cynthia said she uses .454 which is fine, but personally i use .451.Not sure of the need for a bigger ball, since when you press it into the cylinder it shaves a small amount of lead off to make it the proper size. So if you use .451 or...

    know anything about Ultra-Hi?

I have a friend who is selling what he is calling an "ultra-hi" brand .45 cal muzzleloader. It is a 2 piece stock percussion. Bore and lock are in great condition. He bought it from a guy that used it in movies as a prop. It was never shot until my buddy got it, and he has only shot it less than...

What do you use for a capper?

Bought an inline capper when i bought my pietta navy. Tried it a few times, but it seems to be a little less aggravating just to use my fingers. Now i just use the capper as a magazine. Plus, i was originally useing #10 caps on my revolver, but switched to #11 with just a little pinch of the cap...

    Preparing Snake Skin

Oh well...it is a nice skin. About 4-5 foot long. I'll just try and tack it to a nice piece of old weatherboard and set it up in the shop. Thank you for your help!

    Preparing Snake Skin

I have found a really nice snake skin in the yard and would like to use it for something. How would i go about preparing the skin for some kind of project? Of course, it is brittle right now, so is there a way to make it pliable to work with, or would i need one to have a fresher skin to prepare?

    Burning designs on gun stock

Definitely not on a real Muzzleloader...But i hope it comes out as good as i have it drawn on paper. I hope he loves it enough to pass down to his son one day. Still trying to talk my wife into letting me get him a good ol' smokepole  But he is only 7 this year, so there is still some time...

    Burning designs on gun stock

Not sure if i should have put this topic here or in the non muzzleloading discussion section....I am getting my 7 year old his first gun for Christmas. A Red Ryder BB gun just as i had when i was his age. I was thinking of doing a design on the plain side of the stock with a wood burning pen...

    History of the Hawken?

WOW! Thanks to everyone for the input...keep it coming, i am loving reading it all. Here is another question that may or may not spark some debate. Were these guns pretty plain or did they have some sort of carving or inlays on them. The ones i have seen haven't had any, but in the spirit of...

    Where do you shoot?

Love shooting in my backyard! Matter of fact my family gets together for the holidays, has a feast, and then takes all our guns out and shoots. Today we had about 10 guns out and laid waste to some cans, target paper, and an old dryer after our Thanksgiving lunch. We love living out in the...

    History of the Hawken?

Zonie, you are a wealth of knowledge. That is exactly the answer i was looking for! I am buying my kit new from Dixie Gun Works so i'm sure it'll be in good shape. Although not new to shooting, i just started muzzleloading this year. I love it! I don't mind taking the time to work...

    History of the Hawken?

I am begining to think the same Jack. I think i confused everyone with asking for period correct and then saying i wasn't going for a certain date or time in history. History of the Hawken rifle is a more fitting title. Oh, well...forgive the blunder please. lol :headslap:

    History of the Hawken?

Claude, i am not a reenactor or anything. I just love to shoot! So, there is no real time period i am trying to represent. I was just curious on the history of these rifles.
