    follow through

as some others have said its more a state of mind , an unachievable goal but one that needs to be strived for non the less. ofcourse as your gun recoils your sight picture will change but if you try to hold that picture all the way through by the time the gun recoils its already accomplished...

    Is A 28 ga Enough?

as a side note to what roundball said about the vitals we have a saying for bowhunting turkeys and it applies to muzzleloaders as well. hit them high watch them die, hit them low watch them go.

Percussion misfire- bear won I lost

when you pull the trigger with your thumb on the hammer put your opposite thumb over the nipple in case you slip.also after you fire use a vent pick to clean out the nippl to make sure no debris gets in there.

    Average distance to deer

ive said it for years and ill say it til the day i die the smartest deer in the woods is a 3 plus year old doe. shes a flat out survival machine, programed that way by nature.her only concern is eating detecting danger and the safety of her fawns.she doesnt get distracted by sex etc 1.5 year old...

    Average distance to deer

well for me it would probably be 30-40 yards with about 60 being my max shot. now this is probably because i do alot of bow hunting and am programed to try to set up for 25 yard or less shots so i kinda set my ambushes up that way. i dont hunt ner alot of open fields etc. my gun has the...

    Hydrostatic or blood loss?

as an avid archery hunter with probably 100 kills uner my belt and a background in the medical field my opinion is that the animal dies of multiple organ failure/ lack of blood flow to the heartand brain which can lead to cardiac arrest etc. this is the point most of you guys were making and...

Question for the "old guys"...Is it just me or are there others?

well im 43 and have always had a connection to flintlocks living in the woods and general colonial history and living.it helps that i grew up hunting and fishing i suppose, but most of the people i hunt with have no desire to shoot flintlocks or learn the old ways.i think its either something...

smooth rifle VS rifled rifle ..:)

i think what roundball was pointing out was that if your hunting in the east for deer where shots are usually 75 yards and under a smooth rifle is a very versitile weapon.of course you will have to work up a load that your particolar gun likes but a good 28 or 20 smooth rifle will give you the...

    Powder

the reason that these guys wanna eliminate swabbing as much as possible is simple. lazineess. truth be told they dont really wanna shoot muzzleloaders at all if they could hunt the same amount of time with centerfire rifles they would.so they try to make theyre muzzleloaders as close to modern...
