Need Help to ID Bench/Target? Rifle

In addition to what others have already said...could be a Vermont maker as well. I assume you have already removed the rear sight which should be as simple as one screw? Sometimes the barrels are marked underneath.

    Antique musket identification, Please help.

Yes to Brian Anderson in Vermont. He is the only one in these parts that I would trust with such a piece. As I remember...he is into stuff from this era...he would appreciate it.

    Help IDing this old musket

It appears to be well constructed. I don't know anything about this particular piece...but...just based upon pics...I would guess that it is an original that has been often cleaned and maybe the wood refinished at some point. European collectors and some on this side of the pond...like their...

Percussion Longrifle, Where Was It Made?

Just based upon appearance....I agree with you..the first thing that comes to mind is Upper Susquehanna....but Pennsylvania Longrifles are not an area in which I have great knowledge. Hopefully someone on the other forum will help you out.

    Old Flintlock Rifle

It is interesting...indeed...as you say appears to be cobbled together. What exactly is happening at the breech?

    Old Flintlock Rifle

The first thing that comes to mind is that it has somewhat of a Dutch/ Germanic look to it...but also odd. More pics would help...from different angles...including the whole musket...also buttplate.

    Last of the Mohicans

"The Ethan Allen Episode"....interesting. A few years back their was mention of an Ethan Allen based movie kicking around these parts. As I recall...John Fusco may have been involved. Sadly...never happened.

    Lost French trapper

Well the kids spun a pretty entertaining yarn. I wonder how many of their unsuspecting classmates are trying to write some poetry? "Roses are Red....."

    Lost French trapper

Very cool....but the second part of this has to be an April Fools joke....right? I mean a 20oz nugget is worth like 20K isn't it? It will be interesting if they can determine cause of death. Very dangerous business. I have an ancestor who was a Voyageur....died of drowning.

    Daniel Boons Gun

I am almost through reading "Carry the Wind" (thanks to those...who recommended it...really enjoying it...except that I read before I go to bed...and I have been getting less sleep as a result!) This period of transition from flintlock to percussion is portrayed in the book. At the rendezvous of...

    Committee of Safety musket

I understand the reason that the gun collecting community has defined it this way. However, from a historical perspective...I just find it to be misleading as there were many other arms procured by "committees of safety".

    Committee of Safety musket

The term "committee of safety" and "committee of safety musket" has been very narrowly defined in the gun collecting world. I often hear discussions and arguments around...whether or not a musket is a "committee of safety musket". The term committee of safety was still being used during the...

    New Movie The Revenant?

I also find the Oscars to be unwatchable. Furthermore, most of the movies that are nominated...are movies that I will never watch. Still...I was happy to see The Revenant...a movie I liked...get recognition. As I will never watch the other movies I cannot say whether or not Leo deserved the...

    New Movie The Revenant?

Well said.... The Muppets have Statler & Waldorf...Sesame Street has Oscar....the Muzzleloading Forum has Alden....like the others...it takes awhile but eventually and inevitably they become your favorite character.

    New Movie The Revenant?

Thanks....that is helpful...and it makes perfect sense to me...Carry the Wind is on it's way!

    New Movie The Revenant?

I have not read this series...and am now thinking about jumping in. From what I understand it was originally written as a trilogy...and then the early years and latter years were added on. Any suggestions in how it should be read? Start with the trilogy and then go back...or start with the early...

    Trappers Percussion?

In my collecting and research of Vermont made rifles of this style and era...I have found it nearly impossible to attribute furniture, inlays, lock, barrel maker...etc. to any one particular maker...or even state for that matter (with some exceptions). So many individual makers varied their...

    New Movie The Revenant?

As others have pointed out...and I agree with you...the plot choice of having Fitz murder Glass's son and try to murder Glass...was unfortunate and unnecessary. For me...the enjoyment in the movie was not in the overall plot...but in the incredible camera work and individual scenes...

    New Movie The Revenant?

So true! Today...when a movie doesn't go from one action scene to the next people complain that it drags. If you want to watch a fairly realistic movie....I challenge you to watch "Meek's Cutoff"...circa 1845...about a mountain man guiding a family out west. If anyone hasn't seen it...you...

    Trappers Percussion?

arw22lr....I did not make a note concerning the triggers in regards to whether they were brass or not. Next time I am there I will take a closer look. The references that I have.... mention the furniture but do not specifically reference the triggers as though it were not consequential enough to...
