Hunting accident in CT with a musket?

Anyone know anything about this? The article doesn't give much information, and something doesn't seem quite right to me..... "He hid his musket," ????

Just a reminder,,, check your load....

I had a first for me yesterday. I always check and make sure my load is seated when I set out from the truck to hunt and the gun is already charged. I've never, every, had the load not be, so I'm occasionally tempted to not do it. Yesterday I lay the gun across the tailgate, got my bags slung...

To go with the current topic about the arms collection, this is a link to a publication by The MET on powder horns that I mentioned in that topic, https://www.metmuseum.org/art/metpublications/American_Engraved_Powder_Horns There are some really great horns here, some may be plain but have a lot...

Bag style ball mold, size increase?

The recent thread from @Canute Rex on his successful manufacture of a ball mold, and the reply from @necchi prompt me to ask a question I've wondered about before. Could an existing inexpensive bag style mold have its cavity size increased, economically, by someone with the skills @Canute Rex...

    Another question on early rifles...

I have a quote from George Shumway in the first paragraph of his article about the Tulip rifle that raises a question for me. The quote, "Such rifles sometimes are referred to as 'transition' pieces, which is an appropriate term that reflects the move from rifles of purely Germanic origin...

    Tulip rifle question....

I am hoping @rich pierce and @ekettenburg will chime in as pictures and info provided by Mr. Pierce are what prompts this question and Mr. Ketenburg provided a lot of good information in that topic thread. Discussing early rifles recently, and some of my favorites, another fellow and I were...

    G. Fred Asbell

While not thought of as a muzzleloader guy, Mr. Asbell was making some wool clothing that many of us enjoy (or would like to) and it seems quite a few of us also enjoy traditional archery. I pray his family finds comfort and that Mr. Asbell has found his way to peace and happiness on the...

    Any coyote hunters?

I haven't been predator hunting, on purpose, for many years. Anyone here deliberately hunt coyotes with a muzzleloader? Specifically, anyone hunt then with shot in a smoothbore or a .32 caliber rifle? Connecticut considers them "small" game, even though ours get pretty big. So, legally we are...

    PA flintlock season?

I barely got to get in the woods for the Connecticut muzzleloader season. Aside from guns and gear, what do I need and how do I get it, so I cab drive down to PA for a day and hunt during the late flintlock season? Especially interested to hear from other non PA residents who have done this.

    Sujuck? With venison?

Does anyone here make their own sujuck? I'm thinking it would be good made with a venison mix. The one I usually buy, from Smith's Smokehouse, is a lamb and beef mix, so I'm thinking if one had a gamey bit of venison for some reason it would be a good substitute for the lamb. Has anyone tried this?
