    Powder horn color

I tried bleach on a very dark horn and even posted this question a long while back. The replies advised that there isn't much you can do. I decided to decorate my dark horn using white coloring but never got around to it. That's still on my "to do" list.

    Anybody use Dura Flints?

I know this is sacrilegious, but has anyone used Dura flints?

    Storing your powder?

What do you use to store your powder? There is a host of regulations and I guess most of us are in violation. I've heard of people storing black powder in military ammo cans, 5 gallon buckets, even an old refrigerator. What do you use and any thought on this?

    TVM Southern Rifle/Tennessee Rifle

I can't help you much but Matt Avance at TVM put together a super Tenn flinter in .45 for me last year. All iron, no patchbox or nose cap, but I did have a toe plate included and a non-swamped 42" barrel. I am told this is post Rev. and up to the Alamo and something that would have been with...

Brass Frame Revolvers! Are They Safe To Shoot?

I have modern reproductions of the Griswold and Gunnison and the Spiller and Burr, Confederate .36 brass frame revolvers. Using 12 to 15 grains of 3F works just fine with no signs of stress or wear on the revolvers. Lots of smoke, moderate recoil plus great groups at 50 and 25 yards. While I...

    Marking on Italian Percusion revolvers

The information was given to me years ago and yes I was wondering myself how they got 30% more powder into the cylinders! The "not all revolvers are proofed" is unverified since nobody is willing to admit this. But I am starting to believe this is true. Over the years I was amazed at the poor...

    Marking on Italian Percusion revolvers

Ever wonder what all those stamp marks on your Italian cap 'n ball revolver mean? 1. The shield with the crossed rifles with bayonets under a five point star in a wheel is the mark for the Gardone Val Trompia proof house. The shield is believed to be the coat of arms for GVT. 2. The "PN"...

Taylors & Co, Kentucky flint pistol

Does anyone know who makes the Taylors & Co. Kentucky flintlock .45 pistol? Is it a Pedersoli? Anyone got one? Any good? Thanks

    Enfield Cartridges

I have been making paper cartridges for my .577 1853 Enfield for years. I use the English style with the greased cup of the Minie facing away from the powder. I also use a folding and twisting method that doesn't need string. Works just great and doesn't come apart in my cartridge box even when...

Stuck ball removed with lighter fliud charge?

I just heard the darnest thing. Remove the nipple and squirt lighter fluid in, replacing the nipple, and fire to shoot out the stuck powderless ball. Has anyone heard or tried this?

Target loads for 45c barrel with 1:66 twist

I have been shooting my Matt Avance TVM Tenn .45 with .440 cast balls from a Lee mould, 50 to 60 grains of Goex 3F, 3F or 4F in the pan, .15 patch with TC lube. Got groups that almost touch at 50 yards. But some days...not even close...I think it's just me.

    Strongest Revolver

Ruger Old Army. Word is Bill Ruger had the prototype successfully tested with Bullseye! DO NOT try this at home.

    Percussion revolvers

The modern replica percussion revolvers are stronger. More durable maybe, but the fit and finish is nowhere as good as the original Colts and Remingtons. (Unless you consider the Ruger Old Army)

    My TVM Confusion

Nothing but wonderful things to say about TVM's Matt and Toni. They built me a very fine Tennessee .45. They are just great to deal with. Toni does an outstanding job of answering emails, filling orders and yes even building the very sturdy shipping boxes for the long guns Matt creates. The...

What is best flintlock flush kit?

Got mine from Gun Works in Springfield, Oregon. Works just great with my .45 TVM Tennessee flintlock

    Used Uberti Colt pocket pistol

The Uberti Colt .31 pocket pistols now wholesale for $190. With the Euro dollar at $1.30 (up from 88 cents two years ago) the prices of Italian made firearms won't be coming down anytime soon. $125 looks like a good deal, but factor in the cost to repair the lock work.

    What's your favorite Lube?

I have been a real believer in the "WOS" brand of lube. Also know as "What's On Sale" This has meant TC Natural Lube 1000 and Uncle Mike's "Hot Shot Lube. I've been lucky finding a wholesaler or dealer with a close-out case of lube. However you gotta be sure the lube isn't old and dried out...

    Ramrod tip & rod length

Thanks Guys! When I got done fitting the Home Depot dowel, it didn't feel all too sturdy. What type of store would carry a 3/8" hickory dowel? I also noticed the old Dixie catalog suggestion of a three month soaking in coal oil (kerosene?) to temper wood ramrods. Any body tried this? Again...

    Ramrod tip & rod length

I finally did it. Broke the ramrod on my TVM flint. No I didn't break it while loading. Dummer yet, stepped on it while cleaning the rifle! Anyway I went to Home Depot and got a nice and straight 79 cent 3/8th dowel. I slowly sanded it down to .350" to fit the rifle and its about to be stained...
