    lead hardness question?

i understand the reasons to use as pure as possible lead for casting RB's, but, when useing salvaged lead we are going to come across less-than-pure lead. all my salvaged lead gets poured into 1/2 pound ingots and tested with a Lee harness tester. i've got some stuff that i just know is too...

    Lee lead hardness tester

so, i wanted to see just how pure my free lead is. i bought a Lee hardness tester, but i'm not impressed. this tester is mounted in a C/F cartridge loading press. it makes an indent in the lead, and you read the diameter of the indent with the included 'scope. a chart then tells you what...

    777 FFFg

i'm impressed! i bought a pound of 777 FFFg last week and shot with it on the weekend. after 27 shots i called it a day cause i ran out of caps. when i got home and cleaned the rifle i was surprised at how easy it was to clean up, compared to Pyrodex RS. also, with the Pyro i was getting 3.5 to...

    Lead of Questionable Purity?

can i assume that if i melt lead of questionable purity, without fluxing, and skim off the crud, that what is left in the bottom of the pot is pure lead? (a former scuba diver offerred me about 50 pounds of old divers weights)

    #10 primers?

what the heck are remington #10 primers? i'd never heard of them before today. the guy at the shop didn't know anything about them, and wouldn't open the package so i could see them. are they just a hotter version of the #11? the package seemed to indicate that they are hotter.

is "Wonderlube" any good? searching the 'net brought up a list-serve post that had some pretty bad things to say about it, but yet i have read some good things about it as well. what's your take on it?

    Lightest Powder Charge

theoretically, and hypothetically, what is the lightest charge that will clear a patched round ball out of a .50 cal 28" barrel? for the sake of the discussion let's say we are useing 2F, and a #11 cap. ROT is 1:48. the PRB fits just tight enough to stop gas cutting of the patch. it's just...
