This right-handed flintlock rifle has a hefty 29" octagonal barrel with a 1-in-48" twist that delivers excellent hunting accuracy. The clean, functional lines suit traditionalists, while our fully adjustable sights appeal to serious hunters and target shooters who demand the utmost in accuracy. Top-grade walnut stocks with brass trigger guards, curved buttplates, forend caps, ferrules and ramrod fittings make a handsome package. Color case-hardened locks contain hefty coil springs. Each rifle has a safe, solid hooked breech and latch pin for easy barrel removal and cleaning. Adjustable double set triggers are also standard.

I've had this rifle for over ten years, and the only thing I find wrong with it is the rear sight which was defective, and had to be replaced with a better one.
I've just had to replace the nipple, but that is commonly a wear item, that after extended use needs to be replaced anyway.
This is a very good, accurate rifle that has served me well for over 10 years of use, and only because of the minor flaw with the sight, I would have given it an excellent rating.

I rated this a 10 based on getting what I paid for. I'm thinking I only paid $219.00 for the percussion model. Nothing fancy about this gun but, buddy is she a reliable workhorse. I didn't list any Cons because I replaced the rear sight with a Lyman peep as I had intended to do. But even the Investarms sight was very usable.
Shoots well, and heavy enough that a 70 grain charge behind a 50 cal PRB is like child's play. The American Walnut on mine is figured nicely. The bluing is tough enough to withstand rain and all sorts of poor weather conditions. Even around the snail that been wiped and cleaned over the years, no wear is evident.
A good hunter and all around gun. A little too heavy to carry on a weekend trek.

Inletting of brass is excellent. Figure of walnut is beautiful. All around great shooter. Flintlock is strong and with English flint sparks well. The price is a lot higher now than when I got mine..but still worth it.

Like all other reviews, the rear sight is poor at best. Use a sling 'cause she,s a bit heavy for an all day hunt!

Mine was purchased used (about 10 yrs old). This one's a caplock which the previous owner added an L&R lock to replace the original. It's a keeper! I rated it a 9 cuz of the sight.

The tiny screws holding the rear sight and ram rod pipes have to be tightened constantly or they will fall out.

I bought mine in 1989 for $139.00 which included the starter kit. (everything needed to shoot it except powder) I've shot thousands of rounds through it. I wore out the barrel and replaced it with a Green Mountain drop in barrel in 2003 and it keeps on shooting. A very reliable, accurate gun.

I recently picked up one of these in left hand, percussion .50 caliber persuasion. It's almost the same gun as Lyman's Trade Rifle and is made by the same company. The differences are that the Cabela's gun has a cap box, different sights, and is available in LH configuration.
Mine came with a very nicely figured European walnut stock. Fit and finish is very good. The rifle is accurate at 50 yards with a .490 PRB over 80 grains of FFg Goex. I haven't tried conicals or longer range yet.
The sights could be improved. The front is a steel bead which is very fine, while the rear is a wide "V", almost an express sight. I will probably replace the front with a white bead or fiber optic sight, because the small steel bead will be very difficult to see in the field. The rear sight has some slop in it as well, so it may get replaced, too.

This was the first muzzleloader that I ever owned. Over 15 years old now and still works fine. I have moved on to custom longrifles now, but still keep this as a back up. Great starter rifle! Just as good or better than other production rifles, but with a better price.
