I recently refinished the stock with a tungoil finish and browned the barrel. Bore is pitted, but is clean and completely functional. Has fiberglass ramrod, 1:48 twist barrel (28" long, 1" across flats). The wood to brass fit isn't the greatest, but this is a shooter and a fine hunter. Overall length is 12 3/4" while the blade is 7 3/4" long. This is a stout blade measuring approximately 3/16" thick along much of its length until it tapers to its point. The blade was hand forged from 1095 steel and takes an edge well. Its is sharp, so watch those fingers. The handle was made from a whitetail antler shed and is wrapped with thick rawhide to give a tough grip for those with medium to large hands. The blade is pinned with copper pins and the handle is completed with a poured and hammered pewter bolster. The knife has been appropriately aged to give a well used historical look. The sheath is hand stitched and welted, and was made from tough 7-9oz vegetable tanned leather (rough side out for a better grip). A portion of the sheathe is wrapped in rawhide and a handmade heart shaped rivet was added for extra strength. As with all my knives, the blade is stamped with a simple cross. Tang mount has a slight curvature and two holes spaced approximately 1-3/8” apart. Knurled adjustment knobs. I believe this sight was originally intended for a Winchester Model 70 National Match or Heavy Barrel. An inside edge and one inside corner of the sight base have been ground off but this alteration does not affect use on a muzzleloader, and probably not for a Model 70 either. Excellent working order and cosmetic condition. Price: $55 plus shipping and insurance.
