Finished up a trade gun I've been working on. But I did a bad thing . I decided to blue the lock to go with the barrel. Then I went over both with steel wool.
Its a love it or hate it finish.
Also working on another one. This is all Rob's fault.

Hello Mikesto44, I think that blue finish on your trade gun lock looks great. It’s going to get better as it wears from shooting and handling. Nice work. And yes, Rob is a bad influence on us all.

Made myself a shooting box for pistol schtuff over the weekend... Not sure what I'm going to do for handle(s) or strap(s) yet. Inspiration will hit me sometime soon.

Used some leftover maple from a dresser I'm slowly putting together. Finished it with Aqua fortis and Permalyn.

Nice box! Waxed rope handles ought to do? Drill two holes on each end of the box, just the diameter of the chosen rope. Place the knot on the inside for neatness. Two handles should do it. Having the handles on the side takes pressure off the lid.

Sort of like this:

To add on, the rope can have leather stitched over it.

I would, but I don’t have room to secure the rope on the left side. I put a bracket to hold the pistol stand on that side and it fits tight against the side. Whatever I use for handles will have to be surface mounted.

My original plan was to use a shoulder strap. I may still go that route due to the bracket.

I spent this week reaming and polishing a TC New Englander from a rust choked and pitted .50 to a shiny smooth bore .54.
Just did it for kicks to see if it would work. am shocked at the results
65 yards bare .530 ball over 70g ffg 777. point of aim=point of impact! maybe 1 inch low and left. was just going to use it for shot, but this changes my mind. the things that tickle an old man!
shot it 3 times at 25 yards to see what it was going to do. impressed me, so i tried 65 yards. really impressed. ran out of powder in my flask so will shoot more later.
the first 12 inches is snug and the last 12 is TIGHT! Happy Dog!

Ah. This guy here in Australia has some good ideas and products. All beautifully made, marine grade - may give you some inspiration for an external fitting? If the link doesn't work, just google jacktarslocker. 👍

A few months ago I bought this .45 caliber Jukar for $75. The story was that the previous owner built it from a kit but never shot it. That’s believable because the bore was in excellent shape. However, the outside of the barrel had been coated with some kind of brown/black varnish that was very ugly. I finally got around to scraping that junk off and I think ‘in the white’ looks much better. If wasn’t such an accurate gun, I wouldn’t have bothered, but this little cheap gun is a pleasure to shoot.
