Gentlemen, I am in love with muzzleloaders. I am not sure why this style of shooting has captured me so strongly but it has. Maybe it is because I like American history so much.
I made a bad choice and bought a Traditions Pennsylvania rifle from Midway. I am not saying that the decision to purchase a Traditions is all that bad ( some may disagree) but purchasing from Midway was not my best move. $1014 shipped. Plus it arrived damaged. I have a cabin and wanted to put this as a decor item before I hosted a small event there. So this the reason for this impulse buy. Since I have a $1k investment in this rifle what is this group’s thoughts on making it better? Can a Siler lock be fitted to this rifle?
is it worth the investment or should I just scrap/sell/choke on this.

Arrived damaged? Send it back.

Then buy a Traditions Kentuckyish rifle kit and build it yourself for 400 bucks.

Build some character and antiquiness into it and make it your own.

Then you'll have a great Wall Hanger that you can take down and shoot.

Return it and get a Kibler Kit for about the same price. The woods runner can be snapped together on your kitchen table.

Agreed, it’s bad enough that you’ve got a $1000+ Traditions gun, but it’s damaged on top of that. Return it and I’ll sell you the TC Hawken I have up for sale for less than half the price.

They are stating that it is not returnable. I am going through the damage aspect with CS currently.

Midway won't take a firearm back anymore unless you get really lucky. That warning is on the product description page and pops up during the ordering process. They should have to deal with the shipping damage though as the few I have ordered over the years always had insurance on them. Wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't turn out to be such a hassle it's not worth messing with unless the rifle is ruined or all but.

Check if your rifle is compatible with a Siler lock. If so, and you're serious about muzzleloading, I think it's worth the investment. If you're not sure, I recommend waiting and getting to know your rifle first. Other things you can do to improve your rifle include installing a new trigger, bedding the barrel, and installing a new sight.

Last time that I checked (about 5 minutes ago), a Siler lock costs $295.00 and worth every penny. But's that's a lot more than I would spend on that rifle. Maybe take legal action and add mention of all the psychic trauma this situation has caused you. Then order one of Jim's kits.

"If a product (other than a gun) is defective, we will accept it with a detailed explanation of the defect, subject to validation upon receipt. Guns cannot be returned to MidwayUSA. Factory New Guns should be returned directly to the manufacturer for warranty claims."

Good reason not to buy a gun from mid-way. Seems to me their policy is an easy way to bypass anything that may be wrong with a gun and seems you will or could play he** direct shipping to the original manufacturer. Kind of a catch 22 if you ask me. And an easy way for mid-way to skirt any responsibility.

if i recall correctly, our own CynthiaLee got a dud pistol from Midway and was eventually successful in getting it replaced.
might search for her post and see if it contains any good clues on how to squeeze Potterfield.

shipping damage not warranty, send it back! and tell Larry Potterfield to stop ginning like a mule eating briars and do something about it! or put him on notice that he will be known for his actions on every gun forum, be it good or bad!

i owned 3 transmission repair shops in the 80s-2001, i closed them and a few years latter i opened 2 more shops ran them for 5 years and retired 3 years ago. i always gave a warranty on everything i done for a period of time. if the warranty was up and the transmission had a problem, but close, or maybe there had been and ongoing problem, i fixed my work! no matter what i had put in writing! it was up to me to do what i felt was the right thing! i hope midway does the right thing too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

It's not Midways fault, that some gorillas induced the freight damage, they should take the return.
The gun isn't defective to warrant shipment to the manufacture.
