What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Today I got my iron hooks in the mail and finished my wall display. The wood,I think is maple, routed by my father in law years ago. Since I inherited it, i decided to use ir for my display because he loved guns and wood working. I used 4 coat of tru-oil, my first time. I liked how it looks so...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Worked on my wall mount display for my new trapper pistol. Someone suggested to use tru-oil. Being its my first time, it's a learning experience. 3rd coat but haven't sanded yet. Got black iron hooks coming for it. And an old timer said place a cotton ball just inside the muzzle for dust control.

I've had this rifle for years tho I've only started shooting it last couple of years, I took the time to remove the aftermarket hotshot nipple. Before installing the correct one, she got the a full bath and oiling. She looks good for a 30 year old. Lol

    Range box

When I became interested in muzzleloaders, my father in law gave me this box to use. The story behind it. In a small town near us, there was a school for surveying. The professor carried his equipment in it. He then tells me how old it is. It's at least 160 years old.

    Nipple id

Well, after several attempts and alot of swearing, I finally got the old nipple out. I learned a couple of things. 1 never buy kobalt vise grips. Garbage. 2 before u grip it, put something inside the nipple to keep it from being crushed. The rifle has very minimal damage and the new nipple fits...

    Nipple id

It is a pain as mine I have to brush the threads between every shot. I've soaked it several times. I don't care if I hurt it as it's not original to the gun. But I'm not doing it until my new nipples arrive.

I've got nipples ordered. This was on the rifle when I bought it. This guns around 30 years old and seldom fired. I've owned it for about 12 years but just got into shooting it the last couple years. Problem is there is no place for a wrench and it takes an allan wrench but even soaking it it...

It fires with cap in place as it has a moving firing pin inside the screw on cap. And I will be removing it as soon as my new nipples arrive.

I don't think it's reverse thread, that's one reason I'm trying to find out more about this type of nipple. And I've sprayed it with seafoams deep creep.
