    1/4" hickory ram rod

Osayo, I have always just chucked mine into a drill motor and using sandpaper,I run the motor with my foot and sand the rod to shape. Takes about 5 mins and works great.

    flintlock fowler rifle

osayo, My primary gun is a "fowler" smoothbore. It had a rear sight on it. I couldent hit the side of a tent from inside. Once I removed the rear sight, it now is pretty relaible shooter.

    Barrel protector

Ive seen folks make em from a small plastic funnel from the grocery store. dont matter if it fits the rod loose or not. Just needs to protect the bore.

    0.012 or 0.013 patches?

Osayo all, Never understood the micing of patches, But whatever. I use the lightest patch that holds the ball firmly. Right now been using the .10 lubed patches from oxyoke. With a .490 ball it runs right down and is as accurate as i need. Never had a burn thru that i know of and as ythey hit...

    Ram Rod Issues

Osayo All, There is a guy out there that makes what he calls "the virtually unbreakable Ramrod" It is a wooden rod with a steel core that the ferrals are screwed onto on both ends. It looks JUST like a regular wooden rod but with the steel core it will not break. It is slightly heavier than...

    Has Powder Law changed?

However...., Your local laws may be different. While it is federally legal for me to recieve 50 lbs of BP, I am only allowed to STORE 5 lbs without a permit and a certified "powder Magazine" :nono: We routinly buy 25 + plounds of powder and then distribute it among our club.

    How sharp is "sharp"?

Osayo Paul, Thats an interesting idea. I will have to try it. I am lousy at knapping as well. So... You want the flint to strike the steel at the joint where the face meets the pan cover. Is that correct?

20 gauge or 24 gauge Fusil?

Osayo, It is my opinion to save your rifle for ball and get a smoothy for shot. 20 bore minimum 16-12 better.

    Cleaning: boiling water vs. solvents

Osayo all, I used to use the boiling water and soap method as well. Now i just use cold water and no soap. I use a light oil or bore oil after and seems to do just fine. Plus i dont get that "flash" rust any more.

    Flint shotties

osayo, I had the "flint Shottes" once...man that hurt. Oh you ment guns, sorry. Couldent resist.

    12ga .75cal FFg or FFFg ?

Osayo, I only use 3 f in all my guns. As Dave said some guns like different stuff better than others. The thing with 3f is that it burns faster and as such pressures rise faster. If you reduce your 2f load by 1/4 to 1/3 and use 3f you should be OK. I will go as high as 80 grns of 3f in my...

    loyalist arms?

osayo, I have delt with Loyalist and have had very good experience. I have a 28 bess that shoots very well and reliably. I wouldent say its better or worse than a custom gun. You do get what you pay for. But for the price, it has worked out great for me. I like it and wouldent hesitate...
