Remember this Davy Crockett movie scene?

I remember watching this one too:

Missing wood between barrel channel and lock inset a problem?

This is one of the reasons I like back action locks. No fouling gets into them.

Loose Front Site Blade on Green Mountain Barrel

I've cut a shim out of old feeler gauges to put under the sight. That works at times. I've also used the socket trick as mention above that works very well. When the edges of the dovetail are peened over they flatten back out when the sight is drifted in.

    Turning junk into gun parts

When I had a lathe I turned a lot of old gun barrels into usable tools like wad punches or special loading tools. That's why it's important not to throw away anything that might be at all usable. Unfortunately, I have to confess that I've turned some gun parts into junk as well.

    Shotgun morning.

    It's British for 7 1/2s.

I like the 1 oz. of 7narfs in my 24 gauge as well. Are those rooks supporting your gun?

    Making patches

A ground off hole drill in a drill press works great too. Lots of post on the forum about it. I can see how an arbor press works better than a hammer if you don't have a drill press. Good idea.

Can powder brand be responsible for this much difference?

You may not be missing anything. A faster load spends less time under recoil in the barrel. That means the barrel will rise less before the ball leaves the muzzle which will make it strike lower. A slower load spends more time in the barrel before it exits which will make it strike higher...

    T/C lock issue

I was given a TC Hawken that was missing the lock. I bought a replacement from L&R. It was of a lot higher quality than L&R's other locks and probably a whole lot better than the original. For 200 bucks it's something to think about.

Modifying Chambers Traditional Oil Finish to slow drying

You might try putting the finish on one side of the stock at a time. When that side dries enough to handle do the other side. I've done that and it can make things easier.

Help with removing front sight T/C Hawken

Sheet lead inserts in the vice are great for holding a barrel solid for this type of operation.

    Maintaining stock with carving ?

As Phil Coffins said the finish gives the protection. I've never had any reason to use wax on a stock and I've hunted in some pretty rainy places.

    No percussion smooth bore option?

Does this look right to you ?

Or if anyone asks just tell them it's a record of deer and elk kills.

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

I wouldn't bother trying to make a ball puller out a wood ramrod. Spend the money and buy a good brass field rod that will be threaded for a good ball puller. You or someone you shoot with will need it some time anyway.
