Synthetic 2 stroke oil and beeswax. I tend to use the beeswax more on aluminum molds.

    Dave "Two Feathers"

Just received a mini roach belly knife designed by Dave that goes by Two Feathers on here. After missing out on one that caught my eye earlier he messaged me and said he would keep me in mind on the next run, and he kept his word. A week or so later I had a message offering a few choices of the...

Sight Modification for 100 yard Zero with CW Rifled 58 cal. Muskets

If you have the original sights arent they the same as a 61' Springfield? If so I believe its 100, 300 and 500. Drilling a peep in the 300 leaf would be your best bet. All flipped down should be your 100 yard sight picture. Maybe a pic of your sight would help, if you do actually have a 200 yard...

    Ball molds

When Mr. Hahn reamed my cylinders out I got a .461 directly from him. It's a Lee. I think you'll like the way this diameter works.

December 2020 Postal Match - Decorate the Christmas Tree

Pistol target is in the mail, I'm planning on sending a rifle target as well. Just gotta figure out how to patch those round balls. All I usually shoot out of my rifles are minies. I brought a 58' Enfield yesterday but the patches were too thick with a .570 ball (pillow ticking) and couldnt get...

November 2020 Postal Match - Tic Tac Toe

That's an interesting point... @russellshaffer which I tied with did better score-wise with pistol than rifle. Some guys just have a chosen weapon maybe, mine isn't rifle but i'm likely going to try it for the current target (December). If anyone is like me though it really just involves a...

    New at Casting minieballs

You may get lucky and be able to shoot as cast, but a sizer may be necessary depending on your bore diameter.

    New at Casting minieballs

The Lyman is the best dipper for these pots to me, never cared for the Lee 'open top' type of ladle. Using the same logic that bang posted on opening up the bottom pour spot, you may find you want to do this to the Lyman dipper. Try it as-is first, but you'll likely find you want a faster pour...

    New at Casting minieballs

Good info above. I use brake cleaner on the mold cavities to get any oil off then smoke with a candle. Have used beeswax, graphite and synthetic 2 stroke oil to lube the mold. The beeswax works well on the Lees. Less is more on all of these, lightly apply and dont get any in the cavity or it...

    Brass

One type of dust used for this is called rotten-stone and I believe it's fairly period correct. Likely any polish with fine abrasives (like the toothpaste mentioned) would work. Buffing with a wax afterwards like renaissance or johnson's paste should keep it looking nice longer.
