    Boring out a barrel

I have a trade rifle with a slight bulge you can only see when the light shines off it. Probably will just shoot it and forget about it, but part of me thinks I could file it totally flat and reblue the barrel. And that it could get bored to 54 cal to eliminate the bulge on the inside.

    Boring out a barrel

I keep hearing people say they had their barrel bored larger and rifling cut. How much does that cost?

    New toy

I do in nice weather, in colder weather I like to wear shooting gloves inside mitts, and remove the mitts to shoot.

    New toy

I will try that when I end up with a Great Plains or something else with a set trigger.

    New toy

I’m hoping to do the same this fall with this one. I’m interested in single trigger ML for hunting because I’m not used to set triggers. Of course I could adapt but I’m thinking the light trigger might be a bit too light with numb hands. I find a crisp 3.5 lb trigger to be as light as I want...

    New toy

Used 50 cal Lyman Trade rifle is on the way to keep my Traditions Deerhunter company!😁

    Hammer alignment

Update: Traditions has told me I can ship the gun to and from them on my dime, a minimum $55 inspection fee to look at it, and I also would pay parts and labor for any work done. 😆

    Hammer alignment

I sent them an email with the picture, I’ll see what they have to say.

    Hammer alignment

Warranty from traditions isn’t an option, I bought the gun used.

    Hammer alignment

The caps are going off every time, and I can see where the nipple contacts the face of the hammer. I had a hang fire, and then a fail to fire on the next shot. I removed the cleanout screw and put a bit of powder into the “barrel” that the nipple screws into. The nipple had some crud so I...

    Patch material

Thanks folks. I’ll have to visit some fabric stores with my calipers lol!

    Hammer alignment

I had some issues but didn’t have a nipple pick. Next time I’ll pick it before loading and see. All I had was 777, I’m not sure if that’s an issue for these.

    Patch material

Where do you buy your patch material, and what kind do you prefer? I’m looking at buying some cotton ticking from a fabric store, is there a lot of variation in the thickness?

    Hammer alignment

My traditions deerhunter hammer and nipple are poorly aligned. Is there anything I can do to improve things?

    50 cal deer projectiles

It’s a bit lighter than I’d prefer, I wonder if there’s a beefier stock that could be put on it. I’d rather see 7 1/2 to 7 3/4 lb, a bit easier to hold steady. For sure an easy one to carry at 6 lbs!
