An Ottoman pistol: how many new parts?

A question: Usually the barrels of these Ottoman pistols are held to the stock with one or more barrel bands. Is there any evidence your pistol ever had a barrel band ? Or is it pinned to the stock ? Or is the barrel in place using just the breech plug tang screw ? Yes there definitely was...

An Ottoman pistol: how many new parts?

Hi Rudyard, I am not upset at all. I am grateful! I asked because I was used to the thicker barrels of my surplus rifles and the Ottoam flintlock rifles I saw. You and the others in that thread made me a gift by telling me that my Kubur is authentic!

An Ottoman pistol: how many new parts?

Thanks for you input! I thought at first that the hammer looked a bit to fragile nto be authentic....but now I am relieved that it seems legit. The only thing still bothering me is the fact that the barrel seems to be very thin for shooting a ball...perhaps it used some kind of shot - "Dzhapane"...

    Greetings from Austria

That's a very nice specimen of a rifle! Schwerin is in northern Germany, so a bit far away from Vienna where I live. My Revolver is I think beyond repair. The parts that keep the cylinder in alignement are pretty worn off. Also the link between barrel and frame is a bit wobbly as the connection...

An Ottoman pistol: how many new parts?

Thanks Rudyard and TNGhost! The need of repairing is clear... I was referring to the last things done on this gun: The vise marks on the barrel, and the new machined screw for the hammer and the lacking barrel shroud... Best regards Des

    Greetings from Austria

It's a lot easier in Austria to store and buy blackpowder than in Germany. Single shot (manufactured now) flintlock, and percussion pistols are free to buy. So are rifles.....but for revolvers you need a license...Generally everything built before 1871 is free to buy. The Problem with muzzle...

An Ottoman pistol: how many new parts?

Hi Folks, I ask myself how many parts ar new? Is it a well made Frankengun? This gun was bought in Bulgaria. The shop owner called me in the back room of his shop to show me "something special only i could appreciate" - you see where this is going. Nice marketing move. He took out 3 flintlock...

It's starnge isn't it.....the model I have looked at first glance like a LeMat, especially the trigger guard and the grip......Imagine how difficult itwas to find something about it 16 years ago.....

    Greetings from Austria

Hi Ladies and gentlemen, I am Des from Austria and I am a collector (mainly service rifles and bladed weapons)...who always wanted to shoot muzzleloaders one day. Why do I collect arms? As those are among the things that very often tell a story, often an intersting one at that. As original...
