    Shooting Bag Contents?

If I'm hunting, my bag contains: Six ball loading block, Powder flask with the appropriate spout, Half a dozen cleaning patches, Capper. I also carry a small leather pouch in the pocket of my bag containing a tiny nipple wrench, spare nipple & a ball puller. If I'm out for a longer day's...

    Canvas lean-to shelters....

Anyone ever spent any amount of time in a Whelan or Baker style, lean-to tent? I'm seriously considering one for decent weather camping, rendezvous etc... but I've never actually been in one. I'm told that they're the 'ultimate shelter' but I'm told that about every shape, size & style of tent...

    Necessary Complications?

Couldn't agree more. Some people just aren't the fantastic shots they think they are. I shoot at the range with a few guys (both ML & CF shooters) who are constantly tweaking loads, fiddling with their sights, altering stuff beyond my understanding to change 'harmonics' etc.... They just will...

Most memorable wildlife encounter whilst hunting??

Last year, I want to say the last day of TN muzzleloader season, I was sat in the edge of a patch of overgrown woodland. I was all dressed un in my ghillie suit, but I wasn't really hunting, just sitting around in the woods with my rifle in my lap. 2 grey squirrels started playing around in...

    Help...i shattered a nipple.

Done it twice m'self. Bottom line is, you can only whack a small piece of metal packed with explosives so many times before it gives up the ghost.

    antler pan charger

Here's my first attempt, along with my first powderhorn.... It was a fun, easy project. I simply hollowed out a Moose brow-guard, added a snakewood plug & 3gn valve & stained it with some walnut juice. It'll hold about 90gn of powder, which I figured is plenty for a day at the range.

Rat's Another hunting season in the books

Aw maaan! I honestly thought this was going to be a thread about hunting rats. Now I feel both inspired and a little stoopid.

    What's in Your Patch Box?

A small can of snuff. I can live without any lube, I'll bare-ball if I have to for a follow up shot, don't need a worm & there's a jag on my rod. However, the hunt is DEFINITELY over if'n I ain't got a dip!

    1851 Navy or 1861 Navy?

If it's of any help, I sold my '51 & bought a '58, but only because I couldn't find a '61. I also regularly rode a 1944 BSA M21, before the 'import folks told me I couldn't import it to the US when we moved here. I'll never forgive them for that :( Harley Davidson have a slogan saying that 98%...

    Big Bore Carbine...

Well, from experience I can tell you with all certainty; At 32 paces, a pokey little .490 ball out of that little 18" tube will really, really ruin a whitetail's day ;) I cannot imagine how a bigger ball could possibly do worse.

    Big Bore Carbine...

Kinda similar, but a little different.... I have a .50 cal T/C that I chopped down to an 18" barrel. It's a faster twist, but accuracy out to 50 yds is way better that I would've expected. 3" groups at 50yds is typical. I shoot it with 70gn of FFFg Goex & a PRB.

    oct/round rifle barrels??

My .54 has a 42" oct/round Colerain barrel & I'm having a Tulle built with a .62 44" Oct/Round. It's much lighter than either a straight or swamped octagon & with the weight being at the breech end, it swings & points very quickly. If they were dedicated target guns, I'd probably go a different...
