    Lyman rifles in Michigan?

I visit this shop in Davison (near Flint) quite often and they even have a Lyman for sale: Williams Gun Sight

    Where are the #11 caps?

It took me checking several of my usual local stores before stumbling onto #11's. They seem to be scarcer than hens teeth for some reason. I wonder if perhaps the cartridge primer shortage we had recently forced manufacturers to shift attention to producing them and put #11's on the back...

Have both T/C 50 & T/C 54. Which would you choose for deer?

Thanks guys and yeah, the bug seems to have bitten me. Received the 54 cal barrel today and boy do I like the lighter weight! Hoping I can get a PRB to shoot accurate out of it. Not sure I'd want to shoot anything much heavier out of a light weight gun. Want to get back to the range soon...

.54 Bridger Hawken Loads for My Elk Hunt

82 years young and going on an elk hunt. My hat is off to you sir :hatsoff:. If you feel like commenting a bit in your interest of Jim Bridger, this younger buck would be all ears.

Looking good Fishtracks! You and I both are just getting started in this traditional muzzleloader thing. Best of luck!

    Another Rough Bore Question

Is it necessary to get every last bit of "brown" out of the barrel? Just got back from the range, rinsed thoroughly with warm water, blew it out with compressed air, swabbed three patches soaked with rubbing alcohol, then one patch with a bit of gun oil and finally a dry patch. There is still...

Have both T/C 50 & T/C 54. Which would you choose for deer?

Well I made it to the range today AND made a decision. Feel free to skip to the bottom if you'd prefer as much of the following detail may be boring but I need to document the results somehow . At 50 yards, my first shot with the Hawken was just for kicks (no serious aiming...hey, I've...

Have both T/C 50 & T/C 54. Which would you choose for deer?

Well this thread has certainly picked up steam! Still waiting to get to the range to shoot both rifles. However as the two sit in the workshop side by side, I find myself reaching for the New Englander more...it's just a bit lighter, shorter and simpler. Yes, I'm only pretending at this point...

T/C New Englander Tang Screw - Does this look right?

Thanks for the responses guys and for checking your N.E. Clovis. I suspect the wood threads were stripped and the PO made the "fix" Not a bad idea really. Anyway, I'll be looking for a similar screw but with a more beveled head to match the rear screw. Then again, maybe grinding the existing...

T/C New Englander Tang Screw - Does this look right?

Hey troops. I picked up a T/C New Englander the other day and noticed one of the tang screws didn't look right. As you can see in the pic, the front screw is not flush like the rear one is. Curious, I removed the screw and see it's much longer than the rear screw. Also noticed the front...

Have both T/C 50 & T/C 54. Which would you choose for deer?

Thanks for the responses and comforting to hear that no one has mentioned the 50 cal PRB not being perfectly adequate. Agreed that shot placement is key. Interesting I haven't shot either of these guns yet as they were just picked up recently. Will be getting to the range shortly to work up...

Have both T/C 50 & T/C 54. Which would you choose for deer?

Hi all...first post here. I have a 54 cal T/C Hawken and a 50 cal T/C New Englander for deer hunting this year. Wouldn't rule out non-round ball options but my preference would be round ball for simplicity and nostalgia sake. I'm also not fond of recoil  I primarily still hunt so...
