Single set vs. double set trigger

I have built three rifles with single set triggers and have a pistol with a single set in it and I really like them... I am using a Cain Single sets and a Savage single set and they both can be set very light, with the Savage being able to go lighter of the two.. And I will agree that they...

Effect of barrel weight on freehand shooting

Yep the heavier rifle "Hang" better...I shoot an English Sporting rifle with a 1 1/8" by 1" tapered barreled 40 cal flinter, with all the other parts it comes in around 14 LBS and it helps with the calming things down...Makes a great offhand shooter... :imo: OHJ

Max load for a .40 cal.

PackDog has hit it on the nose...I have used a 40 cal to shoot deer and a hog...and I use 60 grains of 3F Swiss, the deer were pass throughs with 2 heart/lung shots and one broken neck, no recovery of the ball...And the shot on the hog was behind the ear (left) exiting just under the right eye...

    Larger than 62

Oregon Barrel Company produces some very fine barrels and they stand behind what they make...Joe and Suzy Williams are some really good people...I have 4 of thier barrels and they shoot really great... :front: OHJ

    velocity comparison

Boy Mr.Chindemi your my HERO...Those Big Bores are really neat but the resulting facts are not for me...Simple Physics just kicks my rear...By the way what do you plan on shooting or hunting, besides anything you want... If you would have any pictures I would be interested in looking at...

    velocity comparison

Well lets put it this way...I never said I liked it just that I did it!!!...I like shooting for fun and enjoyment ,not trying to see if I can keep the doctors rich... I thought about building an 8 Bore but I over gun everything with my 62 Cal...I have built both ball (flint) and bullet...

    velocity comparison

Well to be honest...I can only due about 5 shots and then it gets a bit touchy on the old shoulder, I don't try and shoot it hunched over it in the normal bench postion, tried that once and almost gave my self a black eye, I have made a rest where I can stand up and use it...Well the end result...

    velocity comparison

Using that minie is real close to my TPHH (Trans Pasture Hog Homogenizer) rifle...It is a 62 cal English Sporting rifle, that shoots bullets, 1-40" twist and shoots a 900 grain .610 bullet over 120 grains of 2F...Chrono speed is in the low 1200 fps...Recoil is a bit stiff...calculated recoil is...

    TOUCH HOLE LINERS

I have never talked to any one that has had a liner blow out of a barrel...Liners go back a long ways, the English had used several types of metals that were corrosion resistant...Platinum and Gold for two that were used... Most vents installed are covered by part if the pan or lock (atleast...

    Priming powder timing

Well what I have experienced using the "Null B" and 4F Swiss is that is does not have the problem of turning into GOO, at least not as bad as the others...And that the intensity of the flash is very noticeable and the shot to shot reliability of ignition has gotten better...One other advantage...

    Who dry fires?

I dry fire every night beginning about a month before big matches...I hold on a spot on the wall for a minute (60 sec) sometime during that, I take the shot, but keep the hold on the spot until the minute is up, focusing on the front sight on the target...Then I rest for a minute and repeat the...

    attaching an underrib

The underrib can be a frustrating piece especially on a fowler barrel, and sometimes the overflow of solder is a bit hard to control...First is the underrib pressed steel or milled out of solid stock? if you have a pressed underrib it is better to turn it over so it is the shape of a "V" and...
