anyone have experience using Chore Boy

I have always used the Chore Boy Pads for cleaning lead out of modern pistols. I just pull off a big strand and wrap it around a bore brush. You have to be careful to get a real copper one. Some of the ones you buy at dollar store and other places look like a Chore Boy and some even say...

Cutting in a rear sight dovetail?

I recently bought a Lyman Deerstalker .54. It is a fairly light rifle for woods carry but I don't like and really can't see the fiber optic sight. I just see green blurs with my old eyes. I had a marbles Bullseye peep sight on a trade rifle and I liked it a lot. Does anyone do or know where I...

#11 percussion caps versus musket caps.

I have always used musket caps on my rifles. They are bigger and easier to handle plus hunting in damp conditions I think the extra flame may up my odds of a successful shot. Probably not necessary but it gives me confidence and I don't worry about a little extra cost for that feeling.

How I clean and service my Hawken rifle

Very good video. Pretty much the way I have always cleaned mine also. Thanks!

    First Flintlock Outing

Second outing went better as far as accuracy. I had a 2" red dot on a white paper plate at 60 yards. Front of rifle was on a rest and butt on my shoulder. Out of four shots I got two in the dot and two about an inch to the right so I can surely hunt with that. On shot nine, I got a flash and no...

    First Flintlock Outing

I was trying to establish a base line so I will wipe more in the future. Tighter! Man , it is pretty snug now. I have to have the butt on the ground and put some good pressure to seat the ball now. It would be difficult in a little hand on tree stand. I was actually thinking of going to a .010...

    First Flintlock Outing

I have had percussion rifles for a long time but my only experience with a flintlock was when someone handed me one ready to shoot. I bought a Lyman Trade Rifle and read about 40 pages on here learning about flintlocks. The only thing new I bought was some flints and a little priming flask. I...

    Lands and Grooves

I recently found a little skinny light that I dropped down the barrel of my Lyman Trade Rifle. It was pretty interesting to see. Now the lands are all smooth and shiny but the groove looks like it has lines all running through it. Am I correct in thinking that is from when the barrel was made...

    Reaction to flintlock

My hunting land consist of a beautiful 150 acres that three of us maintain for deer hunting. We are Traditional Bow and Traditional Muzzleloader only. Why, because we like it that way. So far it is percussion rifles but one of the three just ordered a flintlock and I am looking into one. It is...

    Hunting from a Climbing Stand

I will be 67 next month and I still use climbing tree stands.I climb with the uncapped rifle in a soft, light case secured to my stand. I use a harness and slide the tether up and down the tree as I go. Once everything is secure I cap the rifle and settle down.If I shoot, I reload in the tree...

    Hornady great plains bullet

I shot a small deer last season with the Hornady Great Plains bullet. When the smoke cleared I saw the deer running into some tall weeds looking unhurt. The shot was about forty yards and I was amazed I had missed. I sat in the stand for another hour and then got done to confirm my miss. There...

    missfire

I had the same thing happen to me this year and this is the second time it has ever happened to me with a sidelock. The first time I sat in a rain storm for two hours and then tried to shoot an armadilla and only got a pop. A few weeks ago I was hunting with my Cabela's Hawken. I always hot...

    Bullet ID ?

What should I look for in measurements? I assume different lead mixtures fill the mold differently?

    Thompson Center 58cal's- history

I looked in my stack of old catalogs and found a T/C from 1995. The Big Boar is all they show in .58 i9n that year.
