Need help on my first choice.

I have a lyman trade rifle and its my first muzzle loader and u cant go wrong! I shot two deer with it this year and its a joy to shoot. The short barrel makes it easy to carry hunting and is accurate and easy to clean with soap and water.I can hit a paper plate at 100 yards with 75 gr of powder...

    Pouring rain

during the civil war the soldiers would carry there musket with the lock pointing to the ground and lock just under the arm pit. that would give three ways of keeping the powder dry, 1 lock upside down,2 under arm pit , and 3 the barrel would be pointing towards the ground

    powder charge for deer

i shoot a lyman 50 cal trade rifle and using 85 grs of 2f. this is a accurate load out to 75 yards for me. is this enough powder for a .490 rd to go through a deer? i usually take double lung shots when possible and what would happen if i hit the shoulder?

.54 cal shot placement options for Elk

go with the double lung shot, its the quickest way to knock the air out of them and with no air u loose a heart beat.

Armi Sport 1842 Springfield rifled Musket

i have a 1853 enfield and its a 58 cal. i had a hard time finding ammo to fit the barrel because armi has over sized barrels but i have shot mine out to 50 yards and it shot ok. if u can get the right size rb and charge u shouldn't have a problem at 100 yards with a lot of practice.
