I am with Mike on this one . I have tried lead in the past and did not like it for a variety of reasons, as mentioned by others . In addition I never have had any problem gettng fast ignition and lots of shots from my flints . I also wont knapp a flint unless I was forced to , when I get the...

    flint type german or english?

I find the German agate are much more uniform and over all give more sparks than any English flint I have used . Tried both in a variety of guns . French Amber are also good but again not as uniform as the shape and size varied greatly as do the inclusions in the flints, the more opaqe ones...

    Caywood's rifles..your thought's

only problem with Caywood is they got scared by some lawyer into making all of their ramrods way to thick robbing the gun of better lines it could have if it was slimmer and also making the locks have a very heavy pull, which is easier to fix .

    double flint??

I never saw a Euro gun style side by side with a full stock , saw a Pa style long rifle double with a full stock and the weight was awful, dont ruin the clean lines of a half stock double .

    low front sites

I have a question . We have all seen the low front sites on the orriginal guns . Many want to be PC but put real tall front sites on their guns. While I understand the advantage to a taller site I wonder why the old timers did it ? Surely they also saw mirrage comming off the barrel and had, at...

strange as I am holding both in my hands and at least in the one I have the OX Yoke 1000 plus wonder lube is way thicker and more siff than the really soft and lighter feeling TC Bore Butter. They are close in color but not identical and smell about the same but feel completly different. I...

    range cleaning

a lot of it is the hunmidity . I just returned from a primitive shoot, used Bore Butter , and ran a spit patch up and down and one dry one about every five shots, shot 25 times like that no problem . Air was dry and cold and the bore butter worked great. Yes you can spit patch right on top of...

I have a question for the group. When I was shooting paper matches everyone knew to clean between shots for best accuracy . When doing prmitive trail walks I have a delima. I am shooting most of the time a 50 cal . I use .490 ball and .015 patching , not a super tight load and 80 grains of fffg...
