    Blood thinners and sharp tools

I've been taking Plavix and aspirin every day for many yrs. Had first balloon (4 total) and open-heart by-pass 26yrs ago. Then another open-heart by-pass surgery in 2001 and a couple months after that started with the stents. Got 7 so far in heart and one in throat artery. Cardiologist said I...

    What would you do?

I killed this hog with no. 6's. But it wasn't but one long step away and shot it behind the ear.

    Do your gobbers gobble?

They've been gobbling pretty good in the National Forest I've been hunting behind my house since Monday. My luck hasn't been pretty good though. 0 for 3 in the 4 mornings I've hunted. Called in two longbeards opening morning and a guy slipped in behind me and shot one of them out from under...

    turkey calls

If I was just starting out I'd get me one of those Push Pin friction calls. All you do is push the peg or pin down and from what I hear they sound realistic. I'd also get a mouth call and start practicing on it and a slate and box call. But the main thing is find one call at least that you...

    Do your gobbers gobble?

I've spring gobbler hunted for over 50yrs. in several Southern states and now S. Il. almost all of it on public land and these gobblers around my house..what few are here anymore are the hardest to call in that I've run across. They gobble plenty first part of season. Problem is they will stay...

Sounds like an all around good hunt the old way. Congrats.

    Magnum load for turkeys

I use 2oz. of No. 6's with 80grs of 3f in my .20ga. Colerain Turkey Barrel. Far as recoil..this gun only weights a little over 6lbs..and it shoves pretty good when it goes off with this load and differently makes a boom. I don't mind the shove type recoil with black powder.

    Whitetails, Acorns & Shed Antlers???

In the last few yrs I've seen and got pictures of deer with shed antlers in early Dec. and antlers on their head in mid March. I pulled some trail cam cards a couple days ago and all but one out of about 10 different bucks had their antlers. The one had a half rack.

    #4 or #6 shot..?

The first yr I went to black powder shotguns for turkeys I used a duplex load of nickle plated 4 and 6's in this Black Mountain Mag T/C 12ga. Killed this gobbler with that load in Greenswamp WMA, Fl. Didn't like the plastic stock, etc. so built my first flintlock. 20ga. open bore and killed...

Anyone else have turkey hunting in mind?

Pretty much out of turkeys around where I hunt in S. Il. Think over population of bobcats around here is the main culprit. No season on them. I use to see them all the time when in the woods and around the house..saw one turkey the whole deer season this yr. and no scratching or any kind of...

    Squirrel/small game gun

I built this little 20ga. for spring gobblers, but use it for squirrels also. Put a 36" Colerain Turkey Choke barrel on it.

    Game Cameras

I put out about 5 cameras back where I hunt behind my house in Shawnee National Forest. Keep them out pretty much all yr..except during modern gun season and spring gobbler season when the risk is too high for someone to come across one and take it home with them. Although, it doesn't' matter...

    Illinois ML Season

I hunted first morning Fri...didn't see anything or even hear a shot. Probably go late this afternoon and see if I can catch one heading to a cut cornfield before dark.

    Illinois ML Season

Deer herd around here..Shawnee..S.Il. has been shot out since about 5yrs ago and getting fewer and fewer every yr since. This yr is the worst so far I've seen around here. EHD..Blue Tongue didn't hurt right where I hunt..this go round anyway..did kill quiet a few about 5yrs ago. Main problem...

3" snow for the Wisconsin gun deer opener

It's 16 here this morning in S. Il. and muzzleloader season, but it's too cold for me and my blood thinners. I couldn't bone out a deer for packing out if I did get lucky...fingers would go numb. Don't think it's suppose to get above freezing all wk.
