    Rustic Arms Builder

The Bucks County Long rifle on EAR's site is my gun. Terry used my gun as his web site picture

    Rustic Arms Builder

I ordered from Terry March 2010. Had a 12-16 month estimated delivery time. I got my rifle March 2012. Just 7 days shy of two years. It took a little longer than expected. I called Terry 4-5 times over the two years. He always called me back within a week. The gun has been flawless. Put 80...

    Ticks

Here is my tick theory. In Vermont back in the 70's, 80's and early 90's, the state use to spray all the State Parks, and some state lands for bugs. People use to have the tree companies spray their yards, surrounding trees and area to keep the bug population down. In the 2000's, its no longer...

How full should the pan be?

I had a heck of a time working up a prime load in my first flint lock. Finally I bought a 1 grain and a 3 grain throwing tip. I put each in an antler tip with 4F. One and two grains just wasnt enough in my lock. The 3 grain was reliable every time. So I stopped there and called it good. Every...

The hunt or the kill ?

Its a good question. My sister-in-law always complains that we spend so much time in the woods and never get anything. I laugh and tell her you obviously dont understand hunting. We are hunters, not killers. Yes we take game when we can, but the time I spend in the woods with my brother...

    Deer processing questions

This year we process our deer asap. My brother got a small button buck (70#)during VT bow season. We took him to the butcher 4-5 hrs after kill. Got 18# of meat, 9# of burger and sausage. I got a 110# doe during the CT ML'er season. We butcherd her ourselves the next day. 37# of meat. 14# will...

To pee, or not to pee?

I've always been told to not urinate where I'm hunting. This past December 7th at 11:15am I walked 10 yards, urinated, walked back to my spot and shot my first deer with my new ERA flintlock at 12:00 noon at 35 yards. So I'd say as long as the pee-pee was made 25 yards away from a deer you...

    Mistake made with flintlock

I'm a empty the pan, open the frizen, add leather frizen cover to frizen, guy. I do like the idea of plugging the touch hole. What do you all use to plug the hole while going in and out of the woods? I myself have made one mistake with a firearm. It was a new 9mil Berretta back in 1986. I didnt...

    Mistake made with flintlock

I hunt in VT and CT. We are required to empty the pan/remove the cap, prior to getting to the road, muchless the vehicle. This guy missed a few crucial rules and hunting regulations, beyond the common safety rules.

    Pure Lead Balls

Thanks, I'll do some searching. One other thing I forgot to mention. Some of the patch stayed attached to my ball. I use TOTW mink oil for patch lube. I guess it "glued" the patch to the ball. What effect would the patch have on the ball

    Pure Lead Balls

Yep, my recovered ball looks almost exactly like that one

    Pure Lead Balls

Thanks guys. The info is great. I did wonder about that big old wad of grass and what it would do. I'm keeping things as they are. I just got worried when there was no blood. I've hunted a lot of years, but this is my first deer with a flintlock, so I really didnt know what to expect. When there...

    Pure Lead Balls

Thanks everyone. I feel better about my load and ball. This was my first deer with a round ball, and I guess I expected something different than what I got. Yes the ball pancaked, and it did quite a bit of damage inside the deer. I knew I made a good shot, but I missed the hair on the ground...

    Pure Lead Balls

I got my first deer with my new flint lock last week. The 80 grains of FF pushed my .490 Hornady round ball 35 yards to the deer (110lbs doe). The ball penatrated, broke a rib, passed through both lungs, the top of the stomach, nicked the liver, passed between the ribs on the other side, and...
