    Flintlock accuracy

Could be flinch that's trowing you off. When I stated with my flintlock it took me quite a bit of shooting to overcome it. cut a cloths pin half to the length of your flint and do some dry fire practice with it. That helped me out a bit, I also had a buddy load (or not load) my rifle at the...

    Leather Canteen

There is actually a neat documentary that touches on that. Its called "How Beer Saved the World" worth a watch if you ever come across it.

    Mn Snowshoe Biathlon

I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place or not, sorry if this is the wrong spot. I was at the range today shooting and I ran into another person shooting a flintlock. He was telling me about a shoot that takes place every February or March here in Mn that is a Snowshoe Biathlon with...

    Real or Replica Cased Pistols?

Well, those are not flintlocks they are percussion locks. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will be along help out with further identification. Beautiful set of pistols, even if they turn out to be repros.

    1851 Navy not working right

Sorry for the long delay without an update. Got it working, filing down the new hand slightly was enough to get all 6 chambers to engage. As for getting a single shot pistol, well im probably heading down that road. I'll keep the navy but im looking at a few different single shot pistols, both...

    Looking for first flint

As others have said, forget the pan primer and just prime with 3f. Seems to produce good results for me in my .50. I cant imagine that going with 4f would decrease what little delay there is. Ok, was trying to embed a video but apparently I failed at that. Heres the URL for a video of my 50...

    1851 Navy not working right

No, it ran like a champ with the old hand. I've gone though 2 and a half or so cans of pryodex p (i know, i know pyrodex is :td:, i've switched to the real thing now that i have a flintlock) in this thing without a issue. Thanks for the advice, i think i'll start by taking a bit off the hand. If...

    1851 Navy not working right

Correct, the only thing different is the had, this gun ran like a champ with the old hand. The only reason I replaced the old had is that the spring broke. I think i only paid 5 bucks or so for the hand, I think I'll start off by taking a hair off it and see if that improves things. Also...

    1851 Navy not working right

Sorry, thought i had explained it. on two of the chambers the hammer will not cock. The other 4 allow the hammer to cock and rotate the cylinder normally, but on these 2 it just binds up and does not allow the hammer to move back more than a 1/16" or so.

    1851 Navy not working right

So I recently replaced the hand in my 1851 navy (pietta) and now it binds up on 2 of the chambers and wont allow me to cock it. Anyone run into this before? any idea what is causing this thing to bind up?

New to flintlocks - Advice welcome

Well I ran out to Track of the Wolf today and picked up 2 pounds of 3F Goex. Looks like I'll be doing some shooting this weekend. Just in time too as it should be pretty nice out this weekend. Thanks for all the advice everyone, I'll be back with a range report after I put a few rounds through...
