    if you grind the teeth off the edge of an old file keeping it cool you will not change the temper and it will have the right hardness to spark like crazy.

    cleaning is simpler than folks make it. toothpick or feather in touchhole, fill barrel with water & let stand a couple minutes, pour out water, scrub with tow on worm. dry with patches, oil up barrel. water in barrel channel is not an issue on my guns 'cause both bottom flats and the wood...

    take a strip of your patch material lubed and short start your ball. pull it back out and see if your patching is cut.

    Sprue removal

    I use a tanner mold and cut the spru with an electricians multi tool. use one of the smaller wire stripper holes.

    if your only use will be "occasional" use at the target range do yourself a favor and check out the one at harbor freight (20-60x60) if you have one near by. with a 20% coupon it's very inexpensive. I was surprised at how good they are for the price. I also have a burris which is very good.

    use a electrians combination/stripper/cutter crimper. use the wire stripper with the flat of the tool against the ball.

    use a feather from domestic fowl or game bird not songbirds and such. I know of folks getting in trouble for having the wrong feather. no foolin
