    First Build!

    you will never make it as a gun builder. Your shop is too clean, you look organized, you have lots of room to work, the shop floor looks swept, no place for small parts to get lost in. :rotf:

    Not Getting Caught

    Best to always keep your nose clean. You are always a witness, someone may see your actions. Why not always do the right thing. Nothing to hide or lie about later. (Unless you are a politician!!l :grin: )

    Re-Browning Question

    I have removed rust/browning with slightly diluted solution of muriatic acid, followed by baking soda rinse. Cleans out small pitted areas great, less work than filing and sanding. Do this outside, PPE is good precaution.

    Necessary chisels?

    I have a "V" chisel, and we are not real good buddies yet. I guess I get the results I need with straight, or skew chisels. BTW, I made a left and a right skew chisel.

    Browning Lock Plate

    I cleaned my parts with acetone and then painted the back side of my lock that was polished. I painted it with fingernail polish. It formed a nice barrier and kept it from being browned. I then used acetone afterwards to remove the fingernail polish. Back side of lock plate was still shiny.

    any body ever use a heil-coil to repair buggared up threads? works great.

    How do most people get in to building?

    I started with a rough precarve, and bought butt plate, pipes, and Siler flintlock kit. I sratch built double lever, double set trigger, patch box, lock side plate, sights, and muzzle cap. Did almost 99% by hand, with the exception of hole drilling. I did use drill press. Rest done by...
