Smoothin out da smoothbore ummm..... bore !! :D

Thanks for the pics. I have several 16 bore 28" bbls from Numrich with the flat step for dbl brl guns. I'm thinking I can make a rear sight from part of that flat step. They didn't have breech plugs, so I'll get a couple from Track. I also have a couple 24 bore bbls. Thanks for the tips.

    CVA Trapper Shotgun Question

I've seen tape, string, pieces of aluminum can attached to the thimble to take up space. I've mashed the thimble of a barn gun (they were 45 colt cartridges), and installed a spring in the channel. And made a new ramrod as well. Good luck.

I'm curious how you mate the flat breech to the tang? I haven't sourced a proper tang, just some bolts I planned to thread into the bore. I'd really like to see pics of the breech, tang area. Any info or link to another thread would be great.

Help with removing front sight T/C Hawken

Have you shot it yet? It might be dead on, which would make it look much better, IMHO.

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

Just wondering what your powder charge was with the pyrodex? Btw, Go to any Skirmish and you'll see a Sutler set up in a tent or truck selling all the real BP you'll ever need.

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

The only thing I can think of other than ship it off is to thread a slightly larger screw in the minie ball to block the hole in the top. Then work 5-10 grs ffffg behind the minie and let it rip. It took me a while to figure out to swab the bore with dry patches before loading. The oil would...

Tfoley, what's the diameter and weight of the Mortimer cylindrical bullets? I have many more paper and onion patched bullets from Hailey's estate.

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

Unless you measure the bore, or have a set of different size minies, you have a tough time knowing what the bore is. I've seen them from .569 to .589. Mine uses a .578, and it's a modern reproduction. I'm guessing the minie is covering the nipple vent. So no amount of powder or compressed...

    Howdy from Virginia

Howdy from North Texas and welcome to the forum. Minie balls are much more difficult to shoot accurately than PRB's. It took me a while to get it down, and I got some great advice from a NSSA Skirmish shooter who won many matches. Heavy loads and accuracy don't usually go together.

    Hello from Long Island

Howdy from North Texas and welcome to the forum. I went to college with a young lady from Long Island; she grew up hunting and shooting, which surprised me.

1873 black powder Uberti cap & ball revolver

Just read the rules. No weapons made, or designed , or copies of weapons made after 1865 are allowed. IIRC, the Ruger was a modified ROA, with modern springs and metal. Bill Ruger really liked the Remington pistols. That's how it is permitted. It's really pretty simple to follow the rules.
