Goex Powder from Moosic PA Plant

Interestingly, while the 3F powder can is nearly empty, I had the 4F can below that is still nearly full. This appears to be 1981

Goex Powder from Moosic PA Plant

Well, the rust covers some of the numbers but it appears to be 1980 canned powder

When Do You Use Your Vent Pick?

Having missed a dear due to a clogged touchhole and a fizzle in the pan, I now use a vent pick before priming on every shot - even at the range. During a hunt, I re-prime use a vent pick about every 1/2 hour or so - just in case.

Goex Powder from Moosic PA Plant

My 94 year-old good friend and mentor here in Louisiana gave me his old muzzleloading shooting bag a few years ago. I was looking in it again and found this can of Goex Powder from the Moosic, PA Plant for $6.95! So this was purchased before Goex had moved to Louisiana. History in my hand.

    Flintlock Rifle Flash Hole Placement

I killed several deer with my Traditions Pennsylvania Rifle with the same touchhole situation. Also have some good competition scores. One thing to keep in mind when hunting is that you should periodically during the day pick the touchhole and re-prime the pan- even sitting in a stand. I had...

Do you display your flintlock or other guns in your home

I do and I have since my kids (now grown) were little. Only flintlocks from various periods. I once had a concerned teacher call me to say that my son had told her I had a rifle hanging on the wall near my bed and she was concerned. I told her that if I ever thought that he could locate the...

    Cleaning between rounds

Personally, I think I developed wiping between shots from reading something from Dutch Schultz about maintaining the approximate same barrel condition for each shot. Also, shooting a flintlock, a slightly damp patch that goes down, then flipped goes down again, help to make sure no lingering...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Yesterday, spent the morning shooting the March Roundball Match with Bayou Muzzleloaders and welcoming two new shooters to the club.

New flintlock arrived: Signs of frizzen rebound?

There is an article in the January 2023 Muzzle Blast by Fred Stuzenberger[?] about fixing Flintlock problems with photos of the jaws just like yours where he explains that the frizzen is bouncing back and the old lock makers fixed that problem with a small hump or ramp at the end of spring to...

    How old are ya?

I am 70 and began shooting flintlocks at 49 when I realized that Davey Crockett, the guy who inspired me in my youth to eventually get a flintlock, died at the Alamo at 49 years old. SO I figured I better get started!

    Jack Garner

Welcome Jack. I have a nice southern 40 cal flintlock you built that I acquired from Track of the Wolf back about 15 years ago. Its a great shooter and well balanced. I have spoken with you a couple of times about parts for other rifles. Glad you are here.
