    Loaded 45 days...

A friend of mine asked me to try to sell a .50 GPR that belonged to his recently deceased father. I checked the gun and found it to be loaded. His father hadn't hunted since the mid 1980's. I tried to unload it with a CO2 discharger but no luck. Out back,I primed the pan and it fired first...

Left handed flintlocks on a budget??

There are many builders out there that will do a left hand flintlock in the white. $1200. for a plain gun may be possible. I would think $1400. is very do-able. Go to the CLA site, they have a list of builders and contact info. Start sending out emails. Narrow it down to s few then ask for...

Easy way to clamp it is with surgical tubing, or air hose for aquariums. Bill

Need a custom builder in Ohio

Ian Pratt and Jim Kibler are in Eastern Ohio. I think Ian only builds iron mounted rifles. Jim recently did a sterling silver fowler.

    Weight of barrel?

It used to come in all calibers and weights. I have a .62 D weight in a stock here ready to go and a 40 cal. B weight on the rack. Bill

    Reaves Gorhing gang mold kit

Reeves is not retired, even though he is his mid 80's, slowing down a bit. That is his son-in-law you see with him at shows. Reeves forgot more than his S-I-L will ever know. The S-I-L is doing it for the money, Reeves does it for the love of history. When he does retire, the muzzleloading...

I saw some at The Log Cabin Shop in Ohio last week. They do mail order, check their web site. Bill

    Checkering FAIL

Try using electrical tape to run your first line, it's flexible enough to follow the contour of a stock. I just run my cutter alongside the tape. An old time gunsmith I knew who has left us used pin striping tape to do his layout. Bill

    Stock duplicating

Keith, I have to disagree with you. I have watched Dave Keck and Fred Miller duplicate stocks using the original. Without leaving so much as a scratch on them. Bill

    drilling brass

Epoxy it to a board. Drill the holes with high speed, low feed. When done, heat it with heat gun to release the epoxy.

    where to buy?

Dave Keck has a kit he calls his 1780 Lancaster. It's very close to Dunlap's Issac Haines. I've haven't seen Chambers Haines kit in person but it looks very similar in pictures. He offers it in a .50 B weight and will soon have a .54 C weight...
