In my plans for a steel range rod I employ a common brass fitting on the rodeo act as something softer than steel to always slide down the steel shaft toward the lower end each time you use.
A non Forum subscriber has pointed out that my suggestion of weighting the large open upper side of that fitting with lead to increase the chance of its sliding down has the side effect of making your hand turn black flom the lead that eubs off on the steel shaft.
Indeed it does.
His suggestion was to add a heavy steel nut on top and ideally fitting into that fitting to add the weight and not the black after effect of the lead.
He had no comment on the spring I had added as a minor shck absorber,
Has anyone also solved this schmutz syndrome or has the lady of your life asked if your canary died causing you to return from the mine early?
