I've used both, the Lyman was an OLD pot (cloth covered cord) and the Lee is my 20 pounder from about 10 years ago. I don't remember much about the Lyman but the Lee, I love it; mostly because the cost and its large enough I can get a good mix and don't have to cut lead into small pieces. I don't have much trouble regulating the heat, but I pay close attention to it. Never used a thermometer, just went by thrown bullets to gauge temp.

I don't have much use for a bottom pour pot.

I like Lee pots. I also would suggest a Palmer HotPot2. 4# capacity. I have one that I really like.

Have used both. Used a Lee for many years until it gave out. Bought a Lyman mainly for its increased capacity. Both give good service. My advice would be go with the Lee since it is less expensive. I would agree that the Lyman dipper is superior.

I have the small Lee pot.... get a big melting pot it’s hard to keep the temp up when constantly adding lead to the pot.

I’ve got to run some ball myself..... :hmm:

Thanks for the reminder!

A tip to keep the temp up is uses smaller ingots and add as you go and don't wait for the pot to get low. Add as soon as you have room. Also put the rejects and sprue cuttings back in the pot while still hot.

I currently have three Lees. I have use up several more. They work fine. They do leak a little most of the time, it's worth is to me. Get the big one. Do not use Marvel flux, it will rust the pot. Corrosion killed all of my old ones. Just use bits of wax. A single flake of smokeless powder will ignite the smoking wax.

Bottom pour vs. Ladle? It's personal preference, I have no use for a dipper. To each his own.
