Well I will be galldurned. I went out this afternoon to practice and fine tune the load for my elk hunt and loaded all my stuff. Then, as an after thought, I stuck my POS CVA Bobcat in the truck and down the road I went.

Get set up with target at 75 yds, pul out the ol .58 Hawkin(ish) and walk back to the tail gate to load up. :shocked2: I forgot the .58 box....no lead :haha: I did flawless last week so shoulda triple checked.

Anyway I whipped out the CVA, stuck a target at 25 yds and used some new "floral" pillow ticking lubed (a bit too much) with PINE SCENTED bore butter. I had bought 4 different types of ticking to get some Dutch strips ready and this one was UGLY and TOO THIN but has a tighter than heck weave.

Anyway first three shots were a 1" group :shocked2: This rifle has sucked since day one and the best before today was 4" or so. Dialed it in and got two more 1" groups with 2 touching. WOW. I am sure glad I kept it. I love the .36. I can alny assume this rifle loves 35 gr Blk MZ and a thin tight (thumb started) patch with 20 year old pine scented bore butter. :haha: I had tried 100's of different things before but never THIN patch material. Always tight to too tight.

I'm thinking this material with 6-1 dry patch may just really shoot. 1" is not quite good nuff at 25 yds but now I'm excited and have just about a month to get dialed in for squirrel (and elk).

Thanks Dutch for bugging me not to give up.

I owned the Traditions pos version in .50 for around 22 years. That da____ thing would stack those balls so close that it would bring tears to one's eyes. Killed plenty of deer with it, too. Finally traded it and some cash for a cute, custom kid's rifle .45. Those cheapo things aren't to be lightly dismissed.

Mine is the .36

I have a few el cheapo $69.00 guns from back n the day at Cabelas (mnt stalker etc) and YES they can be extremly accurate.

My most accurate rifle is a CVA hawkinish type with dang near a guaranteed 2" group @ 90 yds with open sites. Unfortunately it has developed a 55lb trigger pull and I have yet to "operate"on it. A member here has offered to inspect for shipping and that may happen. I am not a sear n fly type guy (yet). I load n shoot. :haha:

I think a lot of people have the cva bobcat I picked mine up for 50.00 added a set of CVA Hawken sights it shoots great I added lead to the rear end, now she is my loaner gun. although I take her out and shoot her. she ugly solid black stock and barrel but shoots great and is a loaner

Got a chance to get out again. I mostly foused on the .58 for elk. ts about ready. 2-3 Inch groups at 50-75 yds and 4" at 100. 85 gr prb with oiled patch.

I did bring the .36....and my 25 yr old daughter. Loaded it up and, offhand, she gets a bulls-eye first shot, 35 gr prb 25 yds. This after asking "how do I do this again?" I helped her with shoulder rest, trigger finger placement etc and hoped she hit the tree. Her second resting against truck door 1" away. (She has been shooting 5 times now, all others with cf) I hit a spot where a limb was cut and suggested we shoot the 1849.

Had loaded it with 4 at home. Grabbed a worm eaten peach from the neighbors tree on the way out. 7 yds she obliterated it! Second shot at biggest remaining piece dead on. Then two a bit high. Loaded again with 5, she does very well. I loaded one shot, hit a piece of peach and suggested she needed to get home as her hubby was about done and would wonder what was up. :surrender:

Purtty good day out. Elk gun shooting very well, my .36 I have damned for decade Plus is now a shooter and I learned not to compete with daughter :shocked2:
