Our CT squirrel season also opens on 9/1. I am hoping for somewhat cooler weather. This hot and sticky weather raises havoc with the prime on my flinter, turns it to soup. Even 3f gets sticky. Don't know how our ancestors dealt with humidity. I suspect they didn't prime until ready to shoot, which is what I have to do I guess.

We don't usually get a "killing frost" around here till around the first week in November. sometimes it happens in October, but you can never tell. I got the itch bad to get out and bust some squirrels. They are feeding on a bumper crop of shag bark hickory nuts at this time of the year. I have counted as many as ten squirrels working one tree in the woods behind my house. I am hoping for some cool mornings to bag a few.

Last deer season I had 10 (ten) lined up side by each drinking. Now If I had a buddy and my 20GA BP shot gun I'd a done it. Limit is 5 here thus the need for a buddy :haha: Cute lil, buggers are fun to watch and keep ya awake in the blind. One came in blind (no floor) and e both freak out. Many drop pine cones on the top :haha:

Bout a month away here. Not too excited as I lost my soul dog mate July 1 to auto-immune disease. He was a horror on squirrels. 105 lb German shepherd, would cruise through the woods looking UP into the trees. Found more that way than he did on the ground. Miss ya Griz :(

I have a new pup though, 14 weeks now and still eating all manner of items from chairs/dressers to the normal puppy stuff like "everything else". She has just developed a strong ball drive so should be easily trainable and just might take over out there. Lil young but will take her out a time or two. (Still need to introduce her to gun fire).

Good luck all you tree rat runners

AZ is first week in Oct and runs to end of year. Archery starts a bit earlier (couple weeks?, so the deer n elk hunters can also shoot $12.00 arrows into the air)
