SMO's awning prompted me to make one as well.

I used the 12x15 painters tarp and took 8' 2x4's ripped in half. I only used one rope per corner and used a rope instead of a board to go between my two center pole for the tarps middle support.

Quick simple and cheap.

So far so good.

I must of done something wrong, the shade is not under the awning.

what is the formula for aluminum hydroxide

If you all come to my rendezvous in southern Iowa in a couple of weeks you can sit under it.

But if you all come, I will have to get a bigger awning.

SMO is you ridge pole one piece? I originally was planing on a two piece ridge pole, bolted together. Did not want to transport a 12' long pole.

thanks

Honest fleener a lot of folks do just that,, and for that very reason.
It does work,, the longer you can "stretch" the bolt in parts the better,(know what I mean?)
(12 feet = 2-6',, use a 4' bolt in span piece)
but you will always have a bit of bowed back in the ridge pole if you can't do one piece.
Not a big deal, like I said it does work.
Now up-grade, get 10oz sunforger,, add ridge pole, uprights and hurricane ropes.
If your going to go cheap,, expect cheap. No problem with that.

Mine is one piece , the ridge pole inside my tent is two pieces .

It has a sheetnetal sleeve about a foot long which I drilled and place four carriage bolts through.

I use the 12’ pieces along the top of the wall on my tent as well.

The only rendezvous I go to is the one I host every year.

Other than that I dont really know when I will use the sun shade, but I had the itch to make one.

I have a 14ft ridge that is sleeved with exhaust tubing, wrapped in leather to hide the "modern-ness". My awning or fly is a 14x16 spring valley lodge setup. Always pitch the awning, shade is a must!

I'll also add... For what it is worth the quality of fabric in these tarps varies greatly. I met two individuals who both made very nice trail tarps from a Lowes offering in tarps. The sun ate the fibers which seemed to break them down. Mother nature got the better of them both in a rain storm. I have personally found that Sherwin Williams offers a good tarp, the heavier the better. My ground cloth is a double layered 12oz SW tarp sewn with heavy cotton cord along all four edges. It's been great over the years and shows no signs of abnormal wear and isn't treated in any way.

no argument from me. I think I will try your method, and eliminate the middle two poles. Shorten the end ones by 6 inches and make a center ridge pole. that should do the trick.

If the cloth dont last, I will get a better one.

Thanks
