Some nice bucks on our lease this year...this one in particular caught my attention!

Or a little venison on this one for an antlerless tag. Is that a deer or a cow? :shocked2:

Anyone else got some cameras out? Feel free to post some pics!

Beautiful deer , that buck has some character . Looks like some very good deer habitat you hunt on up there . Good luck and hope you get a close look at that Biggun . RW

This was the 1st week of July, so 5 more weeks to grow. These images are grainy because I imported the photos from an old camera in effort to enlarge them. This guy was a tall narrow 4x4 last year, but look at those bases!

Look at the buck on the right side as he walks away. This was July 6, 2018 https://vimeo.com/283352340

I'm no expert judging the age of a deer, but that one looks like a young buck bodywise. I'm guessing 3 1/2 year old.
You have some fantastic genetics.

Great pics. We have many-many antlerless that come into our yard daily. Plus, there are six bachelor bucks we see occasionally. Three of them have very impressive racks, all still in velvet. Don't know if I can handle the rigors of hiking in the woods and hauling out a dead dear anymore. But, I cannot bring myself to just opening the back door and shooting one. That's not hunting and, IMHO, not sportsmanlike.

I agree that Excess650's tall rack buck looks young in the body and face for a buck with those bases and rack.

Here's another one on our lease this year that, to me, has an older buck's face. Eye spread, dished face vs long/narrow, grey hair. Good body mass, especially considering that's a summer coat.

Here's a closer view of the buck with the backward tine.

This guy intrigues me. He is fairly thin antlered and his tines aren't that long, and he's a seven point...but what a spread! His inside spread is way outside his ears...I'm thinking 20 or 21". Not that old of a buck either.

Since taking a heavy bodied mature buck with the .62 a few years back, I've really taken notice to body size as well as headgear. My "old eight" measured between 46" and 47" and I checked twice. It really took me by surprise that a mountain deer, no farmland around, would get so heavy. Obviously he ate well.

Chest Girth Chart
Here's a table to estimate your deer's live weight. Measure the girth of the chest in inches just behind the front legs.

antlers growing up indicate a young deer older deer spread out,,let him walk and in a few years he will be impressive.

I once almost shot a mule deer that I thought was a young bull elk. It was 30-35 yds away on the other side of a bush. NEVER seen a deer with antlers that high. I am sooo glad for dads old rule about making sure the animal you shoot at is the animal you want in the bed of the truck on the way home!. I was following the sweet spot with my sites as he milled out and SHOCKED to see a tiny lil mule deer buck with about 32" of horn going straight up. I keep looking for him as by now he's total record book and NOBODY hunts where I saw him.

Ya, young bucks get tall before wide fer sure. Body size I believe he was maybe 3-4 years old? Smaller than all the does around fer sure?

Several. Puts fear in my heart that a bruiser shows up for a drink before the highly sought after (by meat hunters) 2 pt :shocked2:

Meat hunter rule # 1 : 1) who ever is closer or shows up first gets a truck ride :)

Great pics Mike Thanks for posting.

I don’t have any cameras out at the present time.

But here’s a Tn buck I saw eating soybeans a few days ago.

Sorry for the photo but my cell phone was all I had at the time and he was around 100 yards out.

He’s a good deer for this area.

I’m just staring to see a few bucks here and there so I do need to get my cameras out!

I have cameras out all year in Virginia. You don't know who or what is around until you have cameras watching 24/7/365. I'll pull cards and change out batteries again next weekend.

I was out and spent some quality time with the FL this afternoon.

I haven’t seen him again and have been back by there several times.

Tn. had a “Special Velvet Buck Hunt “ last week end for the bow hunters.

Private land only. I hope he made it.

It’s only a hop and a skip from where I saw him to my place.
