Based on your first post, it would seem as if you scored a great deal. A Siler lock, pristine barrel and decent architecture for only $125. You may have quite a bargain. But as I stated earlier, we really can't form an evaluation without photos or a performance report from the range.

Private message one of us to get an email address to send us a picture. We can use our third party hosting service to place a photo of your rifle on the forum.

Yes, I would have likely paid the price you paid for a rifle meeting the description in your first post.

Well I asked for you to send us some pictures. I'll post the two pictures you sent me.

Your rifle looks pretty good.

A few scrapes on the frizzen means the builder tried it out to verify sparking.

Now its time to get the necessary accoutrements to go shooting.

Measure (measure that is calibrated from 10 to 100 grains in 5 grain increments) You will likely only need about 40 grains for your 36 caliber rifle.

Real black powder - grade 3fg for shooting and priming.

Patching for loading (I like JoAnne's Pocket drill utility cloth or 0.015" thick 100%cotton pillow ticking)

0.350" diameter round balls.

Black English Flints (measure the width of frizzen for approximate size. If ordering from a supplier make a request for selection of flat topped flints)

Spit will work for your patch lube, damp patches not sloppy wet.

Let us know how this rifle performs.

Looks as if you scored a fine rifle.

"Sorta plain wood" you say? I'd be tickled pink. Eye of the beholder! You done good.

That looks to be a Corinth Gun.
Does it have
J. Garner....
M. Avance....
J. Brown.....

One of the 3 names on the top barrel flat?
