Today i took out my new to me flintlock, had a time getting a good spark,so I flipped the flint like others say helped them.wow first try bang boom she was a joy.well here she is an early model TC Hawkin. I had to totally disassembled including the lock, had some surface rust and the brass was so bad it was black the barrel took two days of scrubbing and soaking to get a mirror shine to the bore again rifleing is good no pitting or rust.stock has normal ware but in very good shape. 20180807_145046 by chip Thunderduck, on Flickr]Link

After awhile, you will get sick of keeping that brass shiny and let it go back to the natural "patina". Sounds like you are starting the process of getting to know the rifle, enjoy!
