Just had to get out. I took the precaution of back tracking my walk to check for fire and all is well.
It was grand to stalk squirrel with a ball and boy did I enjoy it :hatsoff:

Is your gun a rifle mounted fusil? Or smooth rifle as they say. It seems to me in one of your post you mentioned it being a smooth bore.
That was good shooting.

I prefer a 12 bore side by side percussion loaded with number 5 shot .The first barrel blast the dray the second shoots the squirrel when it bolts .

I'm too mean to waste shot like that FW! I prefer to stalk them and hopefully I just need the one shot.

Jess seems to lose interest in the squirrels when they are down. Does that .45 make big holes in them? :hmm:
It's not to bad on reduced powder friend.
Switched to shot this afternoon.

Nate, you are killing me good Sir. I still have a week and a day wait to pursue our red, white, and blue squirrels. Living vicariously through your endeavors until then.

Thanks for sharing, Skychief :hatsoff:

I realize that things are a little different on our side of the pond. Where I am from it is not considered good sport to shoot the nest.

Here in the UK they are a foreign pest which became established along with the mink through escapees from fur breeding stations. When the first escapees appear the government put a bounty on them but that died a death , they have spread the squirrel pox to the native red squirrel which is now on the extinction list. They are tree rats and pests so to keep them down blasting out drays is not wrong

Oh, I thought your supposed to poke the drey with a pole, not inflict a possible deliberate wounding :hmm:

Besides, I thought you had a thing against shooting things in trees! :hmm:

Good luck. I will miss your knowledge and photos of historical firearms. Your knowledge is part of what this forum is about. Enjoy....
