My name is Luis, and I've been reading around this board for a little while now. After some nudging from forum friends at a different site, I figure it's time to introduce myself. I'm a 41-year old active duty Air Force member, stationed stateside in Nebraska, but overseas at this very moment. I'm in my 16th year of service, currently a Lieutenant Colonel and have enjoyed my time immensely.

While I feel confident in my abilities these days, I'm under no delusions that I have still have plenty to learn, hence my presence here. I got into black powder firearms more seriously not too terribly long ago. I owned a lefty .54 cal Lyman Great Plains rifle/flintlock for quite a few years without really giving it much field use until a friend invited me to his Tennessee farm for their muzzleloader season. I scored a deer with it while there and that got things going.

I have since parted with the Lyman, selling it for dirt cheap to a fellow lefty and friend who wanted to get into the game. You'll be happy to know that it was replaced several times over with the likes of the following, currently in my collection:

- .36 cal Tip Curtis Virginia rifle

- .50 cal TVM Early Lancaster

- 20 GA/.62 cal TVM Fowler

In a relatively short time, those guns have managed to make some meat on everything from deer, to turkey, to bear and bobcat. Just this past season I had a goal to take game with the fowler using both birdshot and ball, and got it done on a Nebraska Spring gobbler and a Ontario, Canada black bear. A couple of pics from those hunts:

So, please pardon my lengthy introduction, but know that I am happy to be here and look forward to learning from the resident posters on here who have been at it for way longer than me. Thanks for reading!

Welcome aboard friend. Thank you for serving. And feel free to post more hunting stories.

Welcome aboard, and glad to have you. Gotta show your post to our son-in-law. He's a senior O-6 and "too busy" for hunting these days. Thanks for the help in giving him a great big nudge!

Welcome to the fire :hatsoff:

Thank You for your service and Congrats on the hunts.

Thanks a lot, guys! happy to be here.

I don't know what is causing the trouble with the video links for some folks, but I will paste them as regular HTML links and see if that works for you:

Also, we do a monthly forum shooting match. Feel free to join in the fun.

Welcome aboard Colonel,

16 years and already a Lt. Col.? Well Done.

Since you maybe/are a long way from Offut, I hope you have a safe tour and get back soon.

Thank you for your service from a retired Master Gunnery Sergeant of Marines.

Gus

Once again, thank you all for the warm welcome! More apologies for the protracted response, but we have been busy and moving about a lot on this trip. As that goes, thank you for YOUR service, Gus, and same for the other vets/first responders and civil servants on here.

Yes, I am currently just shy of 16.5 years in service and pinned on Lt Col early last year. It's been a pretty amazing run and I still am floored that it all came to fruition with little more than some big dreams and a lot of luck.

I am really looking forward to seeing all of the hunt reports and posts that show up on this particular sub-forum, especially as fall approaches. This place seems like a wonderful hang-out for sharing stories and learning general Muzzleloading stuff!

Speaking of hunts, I guess I should've shared this pic from last season in Montana. I filled my mule deer B license (read: doe tag) with the .50 cal TVM Early Lancaster...talk about a fun stalk. Ended up taking the shot at 52 yards.
