I heard the NMLRA Board of Directors voted tjis week to cancel the Western Shoot. Has anyone else heard this?

No. I would hate to see that, I have been going for 10 years.

I did hear at the Texas State Shoot last week that attendance was down 30 shooters in Phoenix this year.

Maybe meanmike can share some insight.

Hi,
I just got home from the Idaho State Championship and NMLRA Territorials. I will send some emails and make a couple of phone calls later today.
Sad news from Idaho this was their last one, not from the lack of shooters, but in fighting between clubs over the use of the range.
I will post asap.

Michael

Thanks. Friendship ended today, most of the board I would guess is on the way home.

Yes they canceled the Western. However, the plan is to have 2 or 3 regional matches spread around in the West.

With just over 100 shooters and a decline in shooters ever year they are going to try something different.

I heard a break down of the shooters from AZ, I dont remember the number but I think it was less than 10, so there was no compelling reason to have it in AZ.

They are hoping to generate more interest by having a few more shoots spread out.

Thanks for the information, I am not surprised unfortunately.

Two or three shoots will help those from the west but coming from Texas makes it un-practical.

I know it is a business and has to run as such.

Again, thank you.

Hi
The numbers I got were a little surprising 39 Az, either 13 or 19 Ca, sorry don't remember. Mostly people east of the Mississippi. The Az number really surprised me.
I think most of the problem is/was no one in the West really took owner ship.

Michael

I know of should not of quoted numbers from the top of my head on the number of shooters from AZ.

Sorry I was so far off.

I had never been to the Western, but was thinking about it when I retire next year.

Living in Iowa we are in the middle of the USA, but it is a hike to most large shooting events.

My understanding was that the NMLRA was going to hustle and get some events planned for the West.

Hi,
Not a big deal about the numbers. They are low no matter where people come from. I will be getting in contact with the President about what they are thinking and give my 2 cents worth and offer my help in planning something.

Michael

I will really miss the Western shoot.

I met a lot of nice folks from California and really nice times shooting next to them over the years. I learned a lot about pistol shooting from them.

Met a lot of folks from the East, again they helped mentor with my pistol shooting.

My wife would bake a lot of breads for the shoot and pass them out and place one on the Range Officer's bench.

Time's change unfortunately.
