Unit 201 CO elk tag

It took 8 preference points and several years of applying but I finally drew a non-resident muzzleloader only antlerless cow elk tag for Unit 201 in Colorado. I'll be hunting with my flintlock. Has anyone hunted this unit? I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions!

Wow that's a lot of patience for a cow tag!

Aren't there any elk in Montana?

Here is some feedback (bowhunters) on the three units in the NW corner of the state including 201. There are more threads on Bowsite/colorado forums. jrmflintlock, yes there are elk in Montana--lots of them. I'll be hunting them there when the season comes in (last of Oct through Nov). This CO season is for muzzleloader only and it starts Sept 8. Unit 201 is exactly halfway between where I live in Montana and where my eldest son lives in Texas (about a day's drive for both of us). He will be accompanying me for this hunt. Great way to spend a week in early autumn.

I know there are other units in Colorado you can draw ML cow with no points. That was why I asked.

thanks for the encouragement several of you have offered! I'm trying to learn something about the unit and plan to do some pre-season scouting if I can arrange a trip down there. I'll be sure to post a report.

Unit 201 is legendary elk hunting unit. Thats why it took 8 points just for a cow tag.
