Hi all,
Well took the plunge and ordered a Charles Moore percussion pistol from Dixie Gunworks. Fine looking piece, but I notice now, upon receiving it, that it does NOT have a hook breech barrel and I am disappointed. The pistol does have a key wedge, but the barrel is screwed into the stock. This was the blued barrel version, not the in the white barrel version as listed on Pedersoli's web site. To those that have the in the white barrel version, does that version have a hook breech barrel?

Are you absolutely sure it it doesn't have a hooked breech?

I ask because I went to the Pedersoli web site and found the Charles Moore pistols.

They list two different calibers. A .36 and a .45.

I figured you have the .45 so I selected the information about it.

In the information, it gives a PDF file of a exploded drawing showing all of the parts.

It clearly shows a breech plug (#10,Breech Plug, 0800004996) and a separate tang (#10a, Tang, 0800002667).

Here's a link to Pedersoli's PDF download. You may want to download it and save it to your computer.

I suppose it is possible the tang is available on some pistols and not on others. That would explain why the tang is 10a, rather than having it's own stand alone number (like 35).

Yes, 45 caliber percussion. Shoots a bit high.

I see what you're saying and yes, it looks like there should be a hook on the barrel. There is a very fine seam between the barrel and the L shaped piece of metal that is screwed into the stock. When I removed the wedge key and attempted to lift up the barrel, the only thing that moved ever so slightly was the entire barrel plus the L shaped piece. I immediately stopped attempting to lift up the barrel. I think I will email Pedersoli and ask them about this.

The white barrels have hooked breeches.

Pedersoli put high rear sights on them which causes them to shoot one foot high at 25 yards.

If you contact Richard at Flintlocks Etc. he can get you a lower rear sight.

A high hand hold will help with lowering the point of impact.
