How do they taste?
I did order a rifle kit once that was sold for the ”˜experienced gun builder’ it was 20 pounds of pig iron and a bag of maple seeds. :grin:

I have a vague memory of someone writing they had roasted and eaten them. When, where and the source are long forgotten...

I'll just offer that spring time pine tree is good. And that Pine tree offers Vitamin C.

Your post has nothing to do with my question....I already established that they were edible. I was curious if anyone on the forum had eaten them, looking for personal experiences, insight and maybe some preparation advice.....If lucky perhaps one of Spence's great period quotes.

Please try to read my posts and put a little thought into your response next time.

Can't help you much, Clyde. The best I can do is Alexander Selkirk, marooned on Juan Fernandez in 1705, said he "...had enough of good Cabbage from the Cabbage Trees." Will that do?

I really think you should try it, what could go wrong? :haha:

Ok, I tried some raw green ones. Mildly tannic, similar to a dry red wine. the flavor was like that of a green pea that was a little past the "fresh out of the pod" stage.....That point where it begins to harden.

Next up I'll boil some and roast some....Maybe even try to make coffee out of them if they roast nice.
 
I once built a .40 fullstock caplock rifle for a cabinet maker, he wanted it made from Chinese elm. The wood does have some interesting figure. He told me the Chinese eat the elm seeds. They are so small that I don't know how they get enough to make a meal.
