Hello Guys,

Has anybody inforamtion or experiences with the shop "30letavalka.cz"?

They offer matchlocks and wheellocks.
Seems to look better then the indian fishtail musket offered with different lock-type.

Altough the price appears to low for a custom made gun? Couldn't find any information so far.

Greetings Tom

sent 3 messages inquiring about their products and never received a reply,...?

They are not Indian made guns but are Czech ones made to order. In know nothing of their quality but they will come proofed at least.

It might help with emails if one does a google translation at least into Czech. Emailing a US site in Czech will be unlikely to get a reply too.

a gentleman responded to my inquiry and said he was sorry for the delay, caused by computer problems,...hmm, imagine that ,...computer problems

i only asked if he would sell just a wheellock action so i could build a wheellock rifle, to which he replied they only sell complete guns

Hi Chuck

You mention "rifle". So I assume you are thinking of a wheellock shoulder gun with a rifled barrel ?
What style/period would you be duplicating ?
I might have a couple ideas for you.

rick,
i saw one in the nra online museum that they called a french wheellock rifle,...caught my eye and thinking about something close to it,...what are your thoughts and or suggestions?
thanks

Hi Chuck

I went online and viewed the rifle you mention. Very cool. And I thought to myself: You know, that stock style reminds me a bit of a Jager (?) Hmmmm. I could view the possibility of ordering a pre-carved stock - but - have the lock panel area left "squared" so that you could shape it to fit whatever lock you want.
Of course, you could always get a European/English walnut stock blank and have just the barrel channel and ramrod groove/hole cut and go from there. (I did just that for a Spanish gun build I'm having built for me now).
Another option might be Leonard Day. He builds a couple different styles of 17th Century guns. But the stocks are styled as English fishtail or club butt. I believe he has built at least one of his guns using a wheellock. But it would be not be styled anything like the French gun. So, my mind is trending back to the Jager again. LOL

In any case, once you have the lock, everything else can be made one way or the other. Will just depend on time and your budget. Do you plan on building it youself ? Or use another builder ?
The only way I know of to aquire a lock on short order would be to order one of those Indian made wheellock pistols and use just the lock. The lock can be adjusted/tuned to work properly.
Of course, the best would be to order one from The Rifle Shoppe. BUT !!! If it's not IN STOCK as a COMPLETED lock, pass on this option. Could take months if not years (not a typo) to receive it.
Ocassionally, there are original locks that come up for auction, at a reasonable price. But they are usually highly decorated and would not look good unless the rest of the gun was decorated en suite ($$$$$).
I'm just thinking out loud here. The one issue with the lock on the Indian gun is the size. It's closer to pistol size than rifle/fowler size.

good morning,
my modus operandi is usually to get a stock blank from pecatonica river longrifles and have the barrel channel and ramrod groove cut. the rifle shoppe is my go to place for locks, and yes, they did have issues in the past, but they have improved.
i always ask to check if the item is in stock and do not allow backorders. last order i placed on monday and had all the parts on friday thru usps. i have just finished a late english matchlock rifle and have a club butt smoothbore with rifle shoppe english lock started.have a parts set and stock cut for a wheellock carbine and waiting on a snaphaunce lock set. when i ordered the snaphaunce jane said normally these are in stock and sell rather slowly, but for some reason there was a bit of interest in these and are all sold out at present,...but as you can see, i have plenty of projects to keep me busy,...oh, by the way i just finished a medieval crossbow with 175lbs draw,...its a beast
thanks
chuck

thanks for the picture of the nice wheellock pistol, never tried one,but had one a while ago and traded it for a sword

thanks

Morning Chuck

OK. You do the builds yourself. Great. Yes, Pecatonica is a great place to do business with. I recently sent them a stock and barrel to inlet the channel. They had it done and shipped to the builder in about 4 days. I will definitely use them again.
That is good news to hear about The Rifle Shoppe. Maybe that move and more space helped out.
Sounds like you have plenty of projects to keep you busy. I too have two different projects being built now. A Spanish Escopeda and TRS Swedish Snaplock.
Need to have a 17th Century pistol built, but have to find a builder who can build from a couple photos and a drawing :( 17th Century guns are so cool.
Good luck with your projects, and please post photos here on the Forum. And, thanks for the heads-up ref TRS.
