I know that some talk has already started on an old thread, but lets move here for the official Spring 2018 Friendship Muzzleloader Forum Woods walk.

Lets plan for a noon start on Sunday, June 10.

Chime in here if you are going.

Barry

I'll be there, and will bring a new traveling trophy for smoothbore shooters.

This morning I spoke to the range officer running the Woodswalk now. A work party will be there this Wednesday putting it back together after all of the logging activity and usual post-winter maintenance. There are still some details to sort thru, but what had been the choke point of the event (shooting 2 shots at one station, then 3 shots at the next) will be a thing of the past. There might be one station with 2 shots, but it looks promising!

So if you are reluctant to join the fun because of the sluggish course, fear not! Instead of a traffic jam, it'll be a walk in the park. Even if you've never shot a Woodswalk (which means you've been missing a ton of fun), join us! Sunday, June 10th at high noon, at Woodswalk World headquarters behind the Rand House at Friendship.

I was there Sunday afternoon. I didn't shoot with the group from the forum.

I think I hit 6 or 7 of the targets, but I did cut a card so I was happy.First time shooting the Woods walk and I really enjoyed it.

Nice! :hatsoff: It always makes a feller feel good when they cut a card.
What were you shooting with?

Brother and I wanted to shoot the walk saturday. Was not open that we could tell.

Is there specific hours that amatuers can shoot it?

Here are the hours they have in the schedule:

WOODSWALK MATCH
Range Officer ”“ Sean Diehl
Range open 1 to 3 pm fist Saturday;
Sunday through Saturday 9 am to 2:30 pm

I'm finally back from Friendship. I shot with the first group that went through on Sunday, of 4 people. Two stragglers showed up maybe an hour later; let's assume they live in the central time zone. I can't speak for the group of two, but the first four, as I recall, scored from a low of 6 (me) up to 11. Barry shot a smoothbore as always, and knocked out an 8. That included two long shots beyond 60 yards.

I worked the range for 2 1/2 days this week, and never heard a bad word about the re-built range, and I specifically asked folks for their criticisms. Even after some rainy weather, the course was still usable. Almost 300 people shot the course. The highest score was a 15 (out of 16) with rifle, 13 with a smoothbore, and 9 with a pistol.

Next June marks the 20th anniversary of the NMLRA Woodswalk. I'd invite any ideas about how to celebrate. We have a few ideas, but nothing is beyond the brain storming stage, and June is a long ways off. Any ideas?

Running Boar was closed all week because the controller, which has the directional toggle and the rheostat for speed control, caught fire before the first shooter got off even the first shot.

Is it going to be fixed?

I haven’t shot it yet.... I’ve always wanted to just never have.

Is the woods walk still mostly shady?

Thanks for the info

Woodswalk is very well shaded. It's a nice course, and getting improved at every shoot. There's room for 17 targets, plus a tie breaker. At some shoots a target is damaged, but figure on 17 or 18 shots.

The latest plan for Running Boar is to move it from the left end of the main rifle line to just beside Woodswalk, but shooting in the same direction as Woodswalk, not at right angles to it again. That will involve a LOT of excavation and related work, and they want to put the target on a rail, like it's supposed to be, instead of hanging from a tight cable, which sometimes catches a lead ball.
It's an ambitious plan to do it the way it was supposed to have been done years ago, and it hinges on getting free or cheap excavation.

I thought it was already behind the woods walk area?

Back behind the powder house up on the small hillside.....?
