Lesson for Newcomer #4
There are several choices of black Powders based on the size of the powder granules.
2FF is a slower burning powder, easier on the shoulder and recommended for calibers of .45 and above.
3FFF is a faster burning powder and used by folks wanting a faster burning and as a result more powerful powder. 4FFF is very finely ground is recommended for charging the pan on a flintlock rifle.
There is quite a body of riflemen who say the pan can be charged with the same powder being used as the main charge.
The experimenting rifleman might enjoy trying 3 or 2FF powders to see if it affects their accuracy.
4FFF powder should not be used for a main charge.
