You can buy muzzle protectors from a dozen suppliers.
Best source for a "range rod" is local guns shows and/or sporting goods stores for cleaning rods.
It' ain't rocket science to buy a cleaning rod and call it a range rod.
Who cares if it's stainless steel? Cause if your using a range rod it's not traditional in the first place, right?
I find them at gun's shows for $5-10.
hint; look for 10/32 threads

I built my own from a 3/8 inch steel rod purchased locally. I found a brass muzzle protector in the junk box (no idea where that came from). I cut the rim off a .38 brass cartridge and beveled the remaining brass with a drill bit. I used an old door handle from the house I grew up in for a rod handle. The .38 brass cartridge is just large enough in diameter to keep the muzzle protector from sliding off. There is brass on both ends so the steel never contacts the barrel. Maybe in the future I will tap the rod end for cleaning accessories but I have no need for that now. I just use it for loading.

I see they are 5/16 diameter which is my favorite size. Plenty strong and leaves a lot of clearance for a down bore muzzle protector/rod guide to be made up for it.

Got two of them, one a 44-inch steel from TOW for my 3-band .58-cal. Enfield, and a CVA 31-inch long 3-piece heavy 3/8-inch brass lifetime range rod from Midway USA. Both have brass muzzle guards. Both are excellent.

I do basically the same thing but use 3/8" aluminum as it is lighter. I buy one of those threaded ramrod tips and put it on one end and pin a 2" wooden ball from a craft store on the other end.

I have range rods from October Country, and they are excellent. John has been doing fine ML stuff for 40 years....!

The range rod that I use seems to be this 48" x 3/8" brass rod with T-handle from RMC:

And the muzzle protector I use with it is this one from Track of the Wolf:

I am well pleased with this rod for range use.

That OxYoke rod looks like a good deal. A 3/8"X48" brass rod alone is about $13.00. This one is tapped and has a handle.

Years ago I bought a nice one from Cain’s solid brass makes loading a breeze. I also bought several from a forum member of brass tubing second hand. Great in the stand. Plastic type can snap in our really cold weather up here.
