The mainspring on this rifle broke, and I shipped it to Cabin Creek, and six months later no go. I have reached out to Track and awaiting a response.

You folks got any other ideas, so I can get it up and running again?

Thanks

How did you "reach out" to TOW? They usually answer e-mails within 24 hours. If yer handy in the shop (handier than me  ), spring material can be purchased from Brownell's and a new mainspring can be made.

Well, TOW already responded and they directed me to VTI gun parts. They don't carry it either.

Here is a pic of the lock

I made my Hawken from a Cherry Corners Percussion lock which I think is very similar to the lock used by Uberti. My mainspring broke too and there is no replacement for it.

I dug out my Track of the Wolf catalog and using the full sized illustrations found a lock which used a mainspring very close to my mainspring. The lock was an L&R Late English lock or Hawken Lock (LR100). You might want to look at the Sharon Hawken upgrade set of tumbler, sear spring and mainspring.

I did have to drill a new hole for the locating tip in my lock plate. The L&R spring has worked very well for many years now.

Thanks for the info, I was looking at L&R before, and will contact them.

I just noticed that they are not far from where I live. I work up that way sometimes, and may just take the lock to them and see what we can come up with.

Have you tried Muzzle Loader Builders supply? Sorry I don't have a number for them but you can google the site. They are great folks to deal with and very knowledgeable.

Hi,
The L&R people are fantastic!
They will bend over backward to help you out.
I am quite sure their mainspring will match yours.
While you are there get two ( 2 ) they are not expensive ( considering travel )
Your problem is a common problem with a ( large company ) production lock ie: Uberti, Pedersoli
They do not have a good outlet for broken and no longer made parts.
Where as L&R, Siler, Chambers are all great.

If you find a reasonable replacement, buy three!

If you need to modify the replacement and do it wrong, you still have two spares.

The original broke so the replacement is also likely to break. Replace the replacement, now you've got just one remaining. And if you need to make another, you've got a model to fabricate another.

Hi again,
Any good gunsmith can make you a new mainspring, but you can look at charge of about $50, as it will take him about an hour to make it.
So a spare at about $27.50 from L&R, or Siler is not too expensive.
Most mainsprings get broken by improper handling of them.
When removing them from your lock, you do need a mainspring vise.
Using pliers or vise grips will break your spring.
All the best !
Fred

And they still do, I spoke to One of the gents there and they confirmed. Only holdup is if you want a LH precussion then they take a Flint lock and convert it to precussion. That being said they would have the spring in stock for sure

I want to give a shout out to Duane, for sending me a spring he had on hand. I tried to fit it, it's close, real close. I can get it to half cock, but not full cock due to tolerances. I will be sending this lock to L&R for a fix.

Thanks Duane, meant a bunch for your trying to help another smoke maker!

Thanks!
