Picked up a Dixie/Miroku brown bess pistol. Wasnt really in the market, just happened to be a good deal that I couldn't pass.

Looking for any info on a starting point for a load, and any general tips to get me started. Thanks.

Many of them were not really fit to shoot as sold. Soft frizzens, over strength frizzen springs and misaligned touch holes were the three main things. Fit of the frizzen to the pan was another big one if you actually intended to carry the gun loaded. Dixie even offered a service for an extra fee to correct the first two problems. Like any other import of that era, a few were actually made to work out of the box. Hopefully, you got the last kind.
